Solved Need help getting an image changer working.

Post by Milez on July 24th 2014, 9:20 pm

I'm using the code from the second post in this thread puu.sh/apssw.txt

I have the selector sitting inside my announcement. It opens and I can select a new image for the header, but it doesn't actually save them to cookies, so the image resets when I load a page.

Did you add all three codes:  HTML, CSS, and JavaScript?

Yes. I've got all the codes there. I previously had it on my homepage, and that worked, cookies saved, selected image would still be there when you reloaded. The issue was that the code only appeared on that page, and changing the header image there wouldn't make it appear on other pages. What I'm looking to do here is allow users to change the image at the top of the forum, perhaps even allow them to use a custom image for that. Currently though I just want to have code in place to allow a user to change the header image at the top of the forum to one of three images available and have it save and appear on all pages in a forum. Maybe if you know a way to perhaps add a small panel that appears in all forums that can contain html code, I could place the code in that and see if it works. It'd allow me to use the announcements again and get theme changing down in one go.

Add it to an announcement that appears on all pages.

Well that's the thing, the announcement does appear on all pages. It just simply refuses to save cookies though.

Try adding the HTML code to one of the templates.

I had it on the footer, still showed up on all pages, changes the header image, but it still doesn't actually save the cookies for it.

It would be best to ask for help on the forum where you got the code as LGForum is the author of the code.

I've had my question posted there for a few days. I fear it may be dead though.

Check your JavaScript to see if this is at the bottom:
Code:
var cookie = my_getcookie('background');
    if(cookie) selectBackground(document.getElementById(cookie));
});

Nah forget it. I just went ahead and used the second codeset posted and told my users how to make it show up like a typical theme on the forum. I have no idea what the issue was with the first one, almost impossible to tell, second one works fine though. Thanks anyways.

So you used the codes that were added by the other member in that topic?

Yeah. They work better and I don't have to deface my layout to get them in a place I want them to be. Cookies save too.
