In progress Adding my own header

Post by Broomhilda on July 28th 2014, 4:42 am

Want to thank everyone that helped me with all my other problems...I pretty much have them all solved..have someone on the site helping as well..she has been a godsend...

But, yes there is a but, lol...She has been trying to hard to explain how to put a header link in and it is beyond my comprehension...

She made a beautiful picture with my logo and name of the site in it..and for the life of me I can not get it in the way she has been explaining...she says to add <> these around the link from photobucket but it won't fit..can get the < in but the link is to long for the > other one...but there is no way of putting it directly on the header just in that box..what can I do...

Lizzy is in London and sleeping so I can't ask her for help tonight and I have been working on this all afternoon and would love to have it up before she gets back on...

I hope I have explained this the right way..I don't know how else to explain it...wish I had a way of talking to someone in person would be so much easier for me...

Thank you all in advance

Do you mean the forum's banner/logo?

yes..

http://i304.photobucket.com /albums/nn190/ broomhilda61/BROOMHILDAS%20SIMS%20WEBSITE/262wjgj_zps124ebedb .png

I had to add spaces to this haven't been on for 7 days...but this is what I am wanting on the header banner/logo

Also this is what she said: If you like enlarge it, save to your computer and host it to your image host site account, then paste the URL with brackets like <...> direct link to the header area.

Then I asked her to explain it where a toddler would understand and this is what she wrote:
When you highlight http...... the URL and open into another browser window you can see the image displayed. Try it with the forum header I created and remember to pick only the image code, called direct code, then put this between img src=.... as shown in the above code.

I learned all this HTML basics when I was at MySpace. HTML is used for most page layouts, also forums. But when I insert an image in a forum post or add a video, it's mostly BB Forum code,

Most of time it's better to disable HTML codes for videos, slideshows in forum posts, because they might mess up something on the whole forum display or the expert wizard can use the page source and insert other things into a code, like a virus - a virus can be just a few numbers and letters inserted into any kind of code, from a page source or even into a file (because a file is also a text stream that you can open with notepad like a text document).

Well this is a bit advanced for you but it's interesting to know and try to understand. So try it now with the imag HTML in the header area.

affraid scared me to death reading this lol.. if she has kids they must be very smart to understand toddler languange lol...

Administration Panel > Display > Colors & Pictures > Pics Management
Advanced Mode
First one in the first tab.
Just put the image's URL in the box.

If this does not work, you might have to edit your CSS.

You need to only add the link, no code.

You enter the link to the image in the code I posted. Then press the submit button.

Hi first of all Your more then welcome it's part of my job to see if i can work my way around things

Yes this code was way over the top and was well long and there is a limit on the space of the text in that box. but with a little of playing about with making the code smaller makes all the difference.

As for you saying that SLGray was calling or making you think he was calling you a stupid person i really Don't think he meant to make you look that way he is a really nice friendly chap and was only trying to help.

we as staff are not in the habit of making our Members look that way we only try and help you.
Please do not think i am having a go at you as i Don't wish to upset anyone in any way.

As you have now said the problem is fixed for you i will lock and mark as solved.
