In progress Codes Copyright?

Post by Anzo September 9th 2014, 4:12 am

I couldn't find a more suitable section regarding this matter, sorry If i got the wrong section.

My problem is as the following: One of the Admins at my forum was responsible over coding, he made several HTML and JavaScripts for the forum; however, he's no longer an admin in our forum, and he's requesting us to remove his codes from our forum, my question is the following:

Q1: Are we obligated to remove the codes?
Q2: Does he has copyrights over the codes?

I'd appreciate a quick respond, he's spamming our chatbox and using the "report an abuse" button frequently.

I highly doubt he has legal authority over the JavaScript, unless he/she provides you with documents. (Again, highly unlikey.)

Also, if he doesn't provide the legal documents, you can keep the JavaScript/codes.

Could you elaborate more regarding what do you mean with documents?

In my opinion, since he worked for you and he created the codes under your site ownership, technically you have no stolen anything and you are not obligated to remove the scripts. Furthermore, especially if the codes are generic, you have no reason to listen to his demands.

I've forwarded this to the admin to get her more informed information so just sit tight! Smile

Much appreciated. I'll wait for the Admin to confirm it in that case. Thanks for your time. Smile

In the coding is there a copyright statement?

While a copyright may be made in the coding text. He doesn't have any legal enforcement unless he has patented the code (which in a good 95% of cases can be VERY hard to do)

Plus since you did not obtain the codes unlawfully or stole them from another forum then I don't see any legal reason why you would have to remove them.

This is slander to my name and mental property. I have left my name in two different scripts at least, while the rest clearly shows that it is my work.
I also have only reported one abuse and filed one litigation, which can in no way be described as "sending reports left and right", neither did I spam the chatbox (in fact, I was banned from the chatbox and the forum as a whole recently), I merely informed other, not banned members to tell him my regards.

I have all of the files I was using on the site saved on my hard drive, and Anzo himself gave me his prior written consent of removing the code, which I am very infuriated about.

Listen to both sites of the story before you judge it. I have my code saved on my hard drives and the conceptualization as well as the realization of them are my property, no matter what you claim.

I had no intent to discuss this matter with you after what you've done. I'm discussing this matter with Forumotion's Staff and Admins, I have no intent to break any rule of any sort, I'll do what they recommend, that's all.

Hello,

I'd ask that you take any discussion on this personal matter to PM.

thanks

Ultron's Vision,

If it is your work and you have asked to remove it he should, however, If you have no legal documentation or patents it will be hard to bring legal action against him. If you don't have such, I'm afraid that there isn't much you can do.

In my and FM staff's defense, we can't hear "both sites of the story" if you didn't explain your version earlier. Just saying.
