Solved How to remove or disable group messaging and profile messaging?

Post by Bloodhound1958 Thu Sep 04 2014, 23:19

Hello,

Somehow and I don't know how, one of our members sent a MASS PM to all the members of our forum. Not sure if he messaged the group or used some other method I'm not aware of. Normally PM priviledges aren't given until a user has a minimum of 10 posts. Strangely, members with less than 10 posts received this PM as well.

My first question is how to prevent this from happening again.

My second question is how can I disable "send a message on member profile" or profile messaging. This appears to me to be a way to bypass PM permissions unless this is an Admin/Moderator priviledge only.

Thank you in advance for your help and advice.

Well you can send a PM to a group. That will send a PM to all the members inside the specified group.

Ok. Is there a way to disable this function? Apparently this overrides the PM settings in the ACP.

I don't see an option for such a thing in the Administration Panel under "Messages & e-mails." I've checked the "Configuration" and "Private Messages" tab but found nothing.

Sorry.

Hi,

to delete the option to private message all users in a group, go to ACP -> Display -> Templates -> Post and Private messages -> posting_body -> Edit -> Find
Code:
<!-- BEGIN switch_privmsg_group -->
 <tr>
 <td class="row1" width="22%"><span class="gen"><b>{switch_privmsg.switch_privmsg_group.L_OR_GROUP}</b></span></td>
 <td class="row2" width="78%">{switch_privmsg.switch_privmsg_group.MASS_PM}</td>
 </tr>
 <!-- END switch_privmsg_group -->
and delete it.

This should solve your problem.

Topic title changed. Sorry.

Ok. Will I be able to mass pm as the administrator once I remove the code? Also, how about profile messaging? How do I remove this option or disable it?

No, it will delete group PMing entirely, but as long as you don't have too many administrators you can always hit the + icon after the "Username" field and add their usernames in to there separately.
For removing the profile messaging (Assuming you're referring to "Visitor Messagages"), go to Users and Groups -> Users -> Profiles -> General options -> Tabs to Display -> Uncheck [] Visitor Messages.

Topic solved and archived

Exactly in the group administration, you can set who can send pm's to certain groups.
