Forumotion-Side Standard fix for ScEditor

Post by Ramdaman on September 8th 2014, 1:47 am

Time and time again I see ScEditor ruining my posts because of its message length or too many bbcodes. I know how to use bbcodes so that isn't the problem. I suggest forumotion to find a fix for it because even though I have the JavaScript to fix it, sometimes it messes up. I don't know if it's because I have other scripts, but I do know that Forumotion should find a way to fix it so all forums can have that fix.

Somethings could be improved to preserve the post. Mostly delete the tags rather than the post content.

However, here are some examples of common user errors :

Ending a tag within another tag :
Code:
[b ][color=red ]Some texte[/b ][/color ]
The above is incorrect; If the tag is started outside of A, but ends inside A this will cause an error. You should always end your tags outside of other tags.

Some habits to avoid :
Using color, bold, etc inside lists to make them look pretty will cause loads of errors, mostly deleting your entire post after the list.
Code:
[list ]
[* ][b ][color=red ]list item[/color ][/b ]
[/list ]

There are more, but these are just some examples which cause problems for members.

It never occurred that if I didn't strategically place the end BBcode that it would ruin the message.

Only on another horrible software system.

It also depends on the order of the BBCode tags.

I fixed the order, still the JavaScript for forms when creating a new topic still didn't work. And some of my topics, even with the ScEditor Error Fixer script, when I press edit it's going back to its usual ways, which is removing most of the topic.

Which is why I'm suggesting this.

As mentioned in the tuto :
This tutorial attempts to try* and prevent certain problems caused by the new editor in Source Code Mode.

* The problems are resolved in a timely manner, there may be other problems because of the correction.

The SCEditor is a bit iffy with how the tags are formatted. If the way you typed it is full of errors, then it will try to correct it, but fail in the process in some cases. It is the same with writing HTML, you must make sure your tags are in proper order, but it is not just tag order which can cause issues..
