Security: Deny Proxy Access

Post by Guest on November 26th 2014, 5:22 pm

TitleSecurity: Deny Proxy Access
Target Area(s)Global FM Network Security / ACP

Split Post Follow-UpYes:Click Here

Concern:
Using a proxy and fake e-mail address, one can have unlimited anonymous access to anyone's board, even when banned based on (another) account, IP address or even e-mail address (see Split Post Follow-Up).
Detailed Description:
In the past I noticed when a member had been banned based on IP address, the member could reconnect to the website using one of the global public proxies given temporary IP addresses, thus gaining access to the board again using their user account or setting up a totally new account instead.

Usually 90% or so will be kept out after a ban, but it's this 10% left who try to smarten out the admin in a very unfortunate and annoying way. Usually banned members have caused a major incident or various ones even, like spamming the forum and stalking other members on the internet, and if I can't keep 'm out, well, you know, as an admin I'm the one responsible.
Suggestion / Request:
Aiming at full security for my website I'd like FM Technicians to consider installing tighter network security and configure it to deny the use of global internet proxy devices connecting to the websites or make it an option available within the ACP to deny or allow proxy access.

Sorry, but my vote is no. This exactly is not a security issue. There are some members that have to use this because their Internet provider only use proxies.

Like in the split post, I didn't say it's a comprehensive solution, it's a start, something I noticed and I've written it in a suggestion. At this moment we're empty handed. But it's open for debate. Everyone's got his or her own opinion. And for the internet most of the America's are using: most of them don't use broadband, like we Europeans, so, yeah, I understand you're hooking up your phone to get a faster internet.

I'm not sure if I understood?
SamanthaS, is your idea the same as Eugeo Ayano suggests on his reply?

I'd rather wait for your input before replying.
