In progress Revisiting custom fonts using @font-face

Post by Klemen on January 8th 2015, 5:02 pm

Hello

I made a topic on this last year (http://help.forumotion.com/t131879-custom-font-on-the-forum) and the answer that was provided to me solved the issue. However, the newer versions of Chrome and Firefox refuse to display the custom font (works fine on iOS Safari and IE though). I heard that the browser will not display fonts because they are not hosted on the same site, is that true? Any ideas on how to fix this?

Anyway, this is the website:http://www.gr33nchip.com
and this is the CSS code I am using:
Code:
@font-face {
font-family: 'pet_me_64medium';
src: url(https://docs.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0BwsQtfX9m4jAQXJ3eVh6LVl4Rzg) format('truetype');
font-weight: normal;
font-style: normal;
}

body {
font-family: 'pet_me_64medium' !important;
}
I tried using other formats than .ttf as well, but no luck.

Sorry for bumping this, but I really need this specific font.

Any ideas on what I could try?

Hi @Klemen,

You would need to modify the response headers to allow cross domain. If you can't do that, then you will need to find elsewhere to host your fonts. I don't have too much experience with this, but there's some topics on the web that you can find.

Hello Klemen,

There are ways to use javascript and render your fonts. So, technically you can take a service such as:

http://cufon.shoqolate.com/generate/
http://typeface.neocracy.org/

You simply go there, upload your font, they will create a javascript that renders your font. Then you download their default library javascript (to be able to use their font rendering) and put it along with your created font javascript in overall_header file. That should do the work.
