Solved New Chatbox

Post by Shadow on February 4th 2015, 4:49 pm

First topic message reminder :

New Chatbox
Dear members

For few months, we had many problems with our current Chatbox. Many of you complained about the chatbox, that is perfectly normal! That's why, our technicians decided to rework all the chatbox!

There is no big design change, just few improvements Wink However, the code is not the same. It should solve all issues we had and you will enjoy chatting with your members

Of course, the chatbox is still is under beta tests. So, we might have some bugs with the chatbox. It would be wonderful you could report those problems so that we can improve the chatbox as much as possible Very good

In addition, we have a new command /help so that you will know all the chatbox commands Wink You just have to enter /help or click on the following button:

Then, a popup will appear with an explanation of the commands. Those commands depend on your status and permissions on the forum:

Now you can chat grrr!!!!!

@The Godfather wrote:Hello,

We currently have a technical problem of very significant scalability CPU of the servers following an optimization of the chatbox to solve problems you reported on it for awhile. And to be honest, henceforth, the Chatbox uses the same technology as the notifications of the forum rather than sending constant requests.
This theoretically allows to considerably lighten the load and increase performance. We also have the opportunity to add a Help button that displays the commands in the chatbox to those who desire to know each according to their permissions.

We are working hard to find a viable technical solution to this rising burden though our local simulation were good, however, we are talking about millions of forums and only a full-scale test could allow us to make adjustments. :rose:

We are aware of the technical problems and inconveniences this causes. Nevertheless, you can imagine that if we could have done otherwise, we would have. We have a long night of work ahead of us, the pizzas are ordered and the coffeemaker is running at full speed so don't worry.

Certainly some malfunctions persist, but we're on it. Also, know that we are really far from the stage on these kinds of suggestions (why not give us the choice between such and such ... etc.) / Currently, the goal is to get you out a stable and functional chatbox. Wink

In this sense, we need your support and that this topic remains clean without reports that set us on the wrong track.

Wait for the green light for the new patch to be released to give us your feedback. However, at present, there's no need to post to say that you too have the same problem because we already know and that only extends this unique topic for nothing

After stabilization server load will be ok which will solve a lot of problems that you are currently experiencing.

Thank you for your understanding and we apologize for the inconvenience :rose:

Ok. Another Temporary solution could be to change the font color in the meantime and see if it works

Solved Re: New Chatbox

Post by Eden Alexandria on February 5th 2015, 9:23 pm

As of right now, the chatbox on my forum no longer has message lag, so that is fantastic. The only other issue I am having is in regards to member names in the chatbox. Shadow as well as text-transform still do not work. I am unsure if it is a bug or if it is intentional. Perhaps make such optional? Create an option in the admin panel that one can switch on or off to allow such?

Anyway, well done thus far. I hope that fixes will continue to be made regarding this, and I would like to know about the particular issue I mentioned above.

Thank you! :rose:

Solved member name color in chatbox

Post by dcj91x on February 5th 2015, 10:30 pm

Hello,

First want to say the chatbox is running great.. just one tiny issue..

Anyone who isn't a Mod/admin with a special colored name when logged in has their name all black. This makes it pretty much impossible to see. If there anyway to change regular members name color in chat?

Forum: http://mhwiki.forumotion.net/

Thanks!

Hello,

Have either one of you modified the chat or any rule of it?
If their rank is Blue/Red/Black then that color will appear to the chatbox in case of that member is a simple member which will appear with the color you have for your links (if they don't have separate group their own). None of the colors changed, at least for the default chat and its default colors.

Hi, received so many complaints from our membership that the archives are no longer recording. Many of our members depend on this so once they get back to the forum, they can see what they had missed and continue. I have used this software for years and will continue. Just never had a issue with the chat before and understand now since I was drawn here to observe what was going on. Will wait on it and hopefully the archives will return...TY

Update: Archives appear to work for my site now. I also noticed that you changed the font color option back to what it was originally. So that's cool.

Of the changes I've noticed, there is no way to "refresh" the chat box other than refreshing the page. Or, I suppose, by clicking on the archive button and then the "back to chat" button. But for the moment the lack of a "refresh" button for the chat is the biggest grievance my members have.

The glow is not related to the chatbox. The codes used for the glow need to be updated.

The updated code may be provided by forumotion, however, an admin on your forum would have to install the code manually. The reason it is a code is because some forum owners dis like it while others like it, so they make it a code to accomodate both. -Brandon

What is not broke does not fixing- you'd think a company would know that. As a coders perspective I can see that design was prioritized over technicality, which - in my opinion - is a dumb idea. Anyhow, good luck fixing the countless amounts of bugs.

Solved Re: New Chatbox

The username effects and codes may never be updated or take a long time before the original posters re-do the coding... and who wants to do all that just so it will show up in some chatbox that worked completely fine before? This new one is a piece of work for sure... >< I do not agree with the changing of something that already works and does not need fixing, and I do not like the 'improvements', beta testing or not, this will force us to change and rewire our codings just for the chatbox, which will be frustrating and nearly impossible for some codes!

If I may ask, what were the issues with the original chatbox that were so terrible they demanding completely redoing it? Were they truly so severe that this was necessary?

I would like to have a topic where we can vote for and against the new chatbox! If the votes show the majority would like to revert to the original chatbox, then forumotion should honor their community's request and do such.

For adding glows to usernames on the chatbox for specific users, try adding this code to the CSS (Admin Panel -> Display -> Colors -> CSS):
Code:
.chatbox-username[data-user="#"] {
    text-shadow: 1px 1px 3px #000;
}
Just replace "#" with the user ID of the member you want to add the glow for (Note: DON'T add the "u" before the user number like you did for the older code)

The new chatbox somehow does not allow me to use extra coding from avacweb/ JScript in order to have the functions of editing and deleting chats individually.

It worked fine with my forum, also it negated the annoying lines of members joining and disconnecting.
Now, no luck adding those codes

Solved Re: New Chatbox

Post by LadyFaire on February 6th 2015, 5:21 am

Last night, Wednesday, was our weekly 'Chat night', and it was a disaster. Half the members present couldn't post, or the text they were typing would disappear before they could hit 'enter', and even if it didn't go away, it wouldn't show up in the chat. Most of the members left chat in less than a 1/2 hour because they were just so frustrated. Also, the type and the alternating colors in the chatbox would 'jump' every few seconds, making some members sick to their stomach from the constant motion. I'm afraid absolutely no one on KGO likes the 'new' chatbox. The difficulty in changing text color (we each choose a color to make it easier to follow the conversations) was also frustrating people. Didn't know about the 'commands' list, either. All in all, NOT a winner, I'm afraid.

Code:
.chatbox-username[data-user="#"] {
    text-shadow: 0 0 0.3em #0000, 0 0 0.3em #0000, 0 0 0.3em #0000;
}

the above code is the code i use to get the full affect username glow, try it out. Also, if anyone has a new code for sparkles for usernames as well as icons, i'd appreciate it~

also, i used the new code and it canceled out the decor for my normal glows Sad

Hello dear all,
Some functions and variables etc. on chatbox have been changed and this is the reason which addons/plugins are not working. When the update completed the developers of addons/plugins like avacweb, @JScript etc must be re-write the codes for the new chatbox to work again. This will take time due the developers must be find out the new variables/functions etc and re-write the codes again to work these plugins/addons on new chatbox.
