Solved Width set, and cannot be changed

Post by Vince_Tee on March 10th 2015, 10:20 pm

Good morning,

I tried browsing the forums in case my questions had already been asked, but couldn't find a topic that would fit my expectations... I hope I won't bother you too much asking.

I created a forum using forumotion, this forum is dedicated to the A Game Of Thrones the Living Card Game for UK based players. You can see it here:
http://agameofthroneslcg.forumotion.co.uk/

It has been launched a few weeks ago and I'm still setting things up one after the other. What brings me here is the width of the forum, the posts, and the textbox where users can write their posts. It doesn't adapt to the size of the window. It always stays the same. This isn't such a matter by itself, the real issue is that the forum is then too narrow. If it can't adapt I'd like to set it at least at around 1200px wide.

Would you know how to do it? Basically, I would like to match the width of this other AGOT LCG forum:
http://letronedeferjce.forumactif.com/forum

Sorry I imagine it must be pretty simple, but I couldn't find the button/option to activate to do it. If you need any further information, please just let me know.

Thanks in advance !

Solved Re: Width set, and cannot be changed

Hi i have looked at your forum you have a code that makes your forum a smaller size

To Fix this look for the Following in your CSS files
ACP >> Display Tab >>
Pictures and Colors >> Colors >> CSS Stylesheet tab
Type in the search box >> #wrap

Find:

Code:
#wrap {
box-shadow: 0px 0px 10px #666;
margin-top: 18px;
padding-left: 25px;
padding-right: 25px;
padding-top: 15px;
width: 857px;
}

Remove it and then add This:
Code:
#wrap {
box-shadow: 0px 0px 10px #666;
margin-top: 18px;
padding-left: 25px;
padding-right: 25px;
padding-top: 15px;
width: 1200px;
}

To change the Width more or less just change the part that says 1200px; just the numbers.

Hope that helps you on your problem.

Have a really great Day sunny

Found it Smile. Thank you very much! I changed it:

Though, the size of the bow to write messages hasn't changed. Would you know how I could make it wider?

Sorry for the double post.

Something I noticed as well. In this very assistance forum, when I change the size of the window of my browser, the width of the posts adapt to it to a certain extent. That's actually what I'd like to aim for, would you know how to do it?

Thanks again for the time you spend on this Smile.

Hello @Vince_Tee,

That's because the forum width takes a percent, so it resizes to a percentage of your screen. Smile

Just find the style rule for #wrap :
Code:
#wrap {
    box-shadow: 0px 0px 10px #666;
    margin-top: 18px;
    padding-left: 25px;
    padding-right: 25px;
    padding-top: 15px;
    width: 1200px;
}

and change width: 1200px; to width:80%;. You can change the percent to whatever you want, it's pretty simple.

80% => the forum takes up 80% of your screen
100% => the forum takes up the whole screen

Thanks a lot Smile. It works perfectly! I'm sorry to see it was so "simple" I just had no idea how it worked...

May I still ask about the previous question? Regarding the size of the text box when writing messages. Would you know how to change it? I'd like to make it wider as well. Or to set it as a percentage of the window as well...

Sorry again for the double post, but I just realised something. Now that the width is set to a % (which is defintely what I want), thye banner does not fit (which makes sense as it is a 1180px wide image. No reason it would adjust by itself I guess). But would you know how I could make it look better? Is it possible to set the image and only the image as the banner? And get rid of the border and the text?

Here is a picture to make sure I make myself understood correctly ^^.

Thanks again in advance Smile.

Hey,

Add this to your stylesheet for the banner :
Code:
#logo { float:none }
#logo-desc { text-align:center }
#logo-desc > p { display:none }

and this for the text editor :
Code:
#quick_reply #textarea_content { width:100% !important }

Thank you very much! I applied this changes and it works as it should Smile.

I now have another question. How can I get rid of the square behind the banner. As its size changes, but the size of the banner doesn't, it does strange things :p.

I'm sorry I'm so lame with CSS... If there's a tutorial I could read to stop bothering you with these questions, please do not hesitate to point me to it.

Thanks again for the time you spend on it!

No problem Wink

You can automatically resize the image with a bit of CSS. Add this rule to your sheet :
Code:
#logo img { width:99% }

As for tutorials on CSS, this site offers some good beginner information on the web : http://www.w3schools.com/

Thank you so much! It's perfect Smile.

I don't really know how to thank you, but I'll try to let others know about this forum as much as possible.

Thanks again!
