Solved Video Intro for guests

Post by Loverdove on April 3rd 2015, 12:21 pm

Seems like I have great ideas, but I just don't know how to implicate them.

I have a widget with a embedded youtube video of my own creation; a trailer for my forum. Is there a way to make it so that the video pops up in the center of the forum whenever a guest visits? If not, I'm open to suggestions so I can get this video visible and played for at least any guest that might come and check us out.

Hello,

Is the video intro on Youtube? If it is, you can just take the embed code they give you and copy and paste it i the guest pop put field in the acp (Found in acp-->General-->Co figuration).

I'm sorry, you might have to clarify since there is TWO "Configurations" sections under General. However, I ventured a guess into the area that you mean and went into ACP>General>Forum>Configuration and placed my embedded link (yes, it's from Youtube) into LOGIN message. But when I log out, and check the results, it just shows the embedded link in the box with NO video.

Did you put in your embed CODE not embed link, a link is just a link, an embed code embeds the video.

Yep Smile.

I just tried to have on look on your site, but the pop up seemed to be disabled.

Edit: Trying putting this in front of the embed code
Code:
<embed>
see if that helps.

I disabled the pop up because I have a lot of traffic coming in and out of my forum right now. But the box looks exact as I showed you. It's got the embed code inside where the message should be. Is there any other way to get this to show up. Apparently HTML coding isn't responding to this area. And I put the <embed> on the front of the embed code and it didn't do anything.

I'd be happy if I could get the video on top of my board, beneath the banner. I just want this video on there. *sigh*

Hmm maybe it doesnt support html then... try posting the video using the youtube icon, then copy and paste what it give you (by editing the topic) into the pop out.

Hope this helps,

I am sure one of them will be happy to help you find or get one, code is just not my thing yet, I know some things, but I am still learning. Ange and Twisted are the code experts and masters here, so it is best for them to assist you.

I also wanted to compliment you on that video, it was done very well. Great job. Very Happy. Very good

EDIT: There is one thing you could try, I don't if it will work, if it doesn't remove it and keep the way you have it until ange or twistes get on. Try experimenting with sizes if you want:
Code:
[size=(your number here)] [/size]

How should I input the values though? like this?

And thanks for your compliments on my video. I'm a graphic designer of a different sort. Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro/After Effects are my playgrounds. Coding? That makes my dyslexia go batsh*t crazy! LOL

Yeah, formatting it like that would be fine, again I don't know if it will work, in any case it was something to try.

Yeah, your video was awesome, I understand about the coding thing, it is just very complex at first, I am learning, but am still needless to say a newbie, I have a ways to go, but I am learning bit by bit. Smile

Using the embed HTML tag would be the best option.
Code:
<div style="text-align:center">
  <embed pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jw4jmdfbF6w" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" quality="high" scale="exactfit" height="350" width="425"/>
</div>

You can added the above anywhere HTML formats, such as the homepage message, widgets, etc.. If you need any help, let me know.

P.S.
The size bbcode tag only affects font by manipulating the font size. See below for an equivalent comparison.

Code:
// bbcode
[size=24]My texte[/size]

// html
<span style="font-size:24px">My texte</span>

@Ange Tuteur

We tried the <embed> tag already, I suggested it, loverdove would like the video to be in the guest registration pop up, it appears this field doesn't support html, so we need to find a way to re-size the video if possible using BBCode, any ideas?

Should be as simple as adding a style rule for embedded elements inside of the login popup. Add the following to your stylesheet in that case :
Code:
#login_popup embed {
  width:350px !important;
  height:250px !important;
}

Modify the dimensions to whatever you like.

That makes the box larger. What I'm looking to do is make the video appear larger than the defaulted size. Smile If I can do that in CSS that'd be awesome!

Yes, that CSS rule will modify the video size. You placed it within your stylesheet, correct ?

If you use values higher than your login popup's size it'll exceed those dimensions, so make sure to use values that are within the popup's dimensions.

@Ange Tuteur I did use that exact coding you gave me. All it did was extend the box on the sides. What I want is for the video to take up the entire length of the box. Do I need to put the link to the video in the CSS? I have it under General > Forum > Configuration > Login Popup Also, while I have you, is there a way to make it have an autostart?

If I need to add the video to the CSS, then I'll need to know how to add the link to that area as well. Right now, it looks like this when someone enters my forum:

Add it to the top of your stylesheet. It could be that something in your stylesheet is preventing it from working. blackeye

The video should stay where it is. CSS is only for styling webpages, so placing the link in there could cause some problems. I meant to place this :
Code:
#login_popup embed {
  width:350px !important;
  height:250px !important;
}

At the top of the stylesheet.

Is there anything I can do with this coding I found?

Code:
video{
  width:694px;
  height:390px;
}
.video_poster{
  width:694px;
  height:390px;
  background-size:694px 390px;
  background-image:url(images/myvideo_poster.jpg);
}

Can I combine it with this coding you gave me? And if so, how should I arrange it in my Stylesheet?

Code:
#login_popup embed {
width:350px !important;
height:250px !important;
}

Can you post the contents of your stylesheet here ? I noticed that the style rule I gave you still isn't affecting the video.

Also, the class .video_poster can only work if the embedded video has that specific classname. For example :
Code:
<embed class="video_poster" />

So, I don't think those rules will work considering that you're using the bbcode.
