Protection Of Founders IP or IP protection system.

Post by Hagoromo Otsutsuki on April 20th 2015, 2:50 pm

I asked a Staff before about a situation of what if a Admin copied and paste the Founders IP into the Ban IP banning system and he told me he "Never" tried it so I waited and he tested it and its possible so how about we have a Private System for Founders IP? Or a system where we can select Protected IPs.

Protected meaning it shows up as "Private".

Even if he/she did so, I am pretty sure a Founder can still access their acp directly via the utilites tool and could unban their ip address.

Care to test that theory? Because I still think a protection of a staff IP is important.

Members cant see ip addresses, if you can't trust your admins enough to use their powers for good and not ip ban people without a good reason, then maybe they shouldn't be an admin. Especially if they ip ban the founder.

I am 90% sure this can be corrected by the founder via utilities, the only it couldn't is if the founder account was hacked and they also changed the foundation password, but a simple IP Ban I am sure CAN be corrected in this manner.

but you are 90% sure....why not the other 10%? I mean people can hack and get IPS regardless of being Member or admin trust me on that this would make people feel safe

Look the fm system is designed no matter what to always get the Founder access to his or her forum regardless of the sitaution, your account gets hacked, come to support forum they get you access, ip is even simpler to deal with, an ip address itself doesn't tell much, its just a way fo identify who is uses a site. Thats all, and a ip address is only specific to the router, so if they banned my house ip, I would just tk school, or the library or another public hotspot and unban it. I sleep well a night, I am not worried about one of my admins or staff banning my ip address, because if I was they would no longer be a staff member. An IP Address itself is nothing to worry about, there are a million ways to access a website even if your ip banned, proxy servers, hotspots, etc. I would worry about a hacker hacking the founder account (which hasnt even close to happening to me yet) then getting ip banned from my own site.

Nowadays with so many ways to access the web in so many forms, an IP Ban is actually not really an effective method anymore, but its all people got.

It has been confirmed that the founder could go remove his ip address from the banlist via the Founder Utilities. There should be no trouble being able to regain access to your forum if someone were to ban your ip address. Wink
