Solved User name already taken?

Post by jan4jam June 30th 2015, 3:22 pm

Good morning,

Okay with all of your support I am ready to go I am opening my Forum on the 12th of this coming month and closing my other one the same day my concern is people are starting to join I did a rule to the registration that they have to agree on it came out GREAT very happy with the workings here I do feel bad with all the help I needed though my apologies.

Just one more thing I have posted about this before and thought it was okay now but when I signed up as a test member it said "name already taken" then when I went to my email where I go to approve a new member it was there to approve my concern is a member is going to sit there and try to come up with other names when it did process it but it said it didn't so to speak telling the member it already exist??

I did do what you said to do last time I "checked the box in the Admin saying allowing Spam usual names used" is there anything else I can do or can someone sign up and see it for them self?

This is making me nervous is all since I am getting quite a few people here registering I do not want to see them having trouble with Mental Illness they easily get frustrated and I have not been busy with my other site for a while and to see there are already 16 members and not even opened tells me yes this is a great forum for people are more comfortable here then at the other one but "how do I make it so it accepts all user names??"

God Bless you all for all your help, I do not see me needing anymore assistance after this not for a while or when members have an issue if I can not figure it out set up is done except for that=D

Jan

PS/ will get back to you asap have doc appt.........

Solved Re: User name already taken?

Hi @jan4jam,

If you disabled Unauthorize subscriptions made with the most commonly used spam usernames under General > Security, you should be good. However, there may still be some complications with short ( less than 6 chars ) and simple names.

What was the username you entered, if I may ask ?

( Also, there's no problem asking questions on here. We're here to answer your questions. Wink )

Good morning,

Thank you I will alert on the agree page upon registration that user names should be no less than 6 characters and not too common of a name...

I used the simple name "test"

Thank you for your support have a great day

Solved Re: User name already taken?

Post by thewordwatcher July 4th 2015, 12:51 pm

I have a similar problem. I have two users who during initial setting up had warnings about password to short.

All was going on and account seems to be made but they can log in, and I can't see their nick when searching in Control Panel selecting users.

So user can't log and the system is telling him that he has not correct data, but on my side I'm having trouble to see the user at all.

It happened twice to two different users.

In first instance I said to an user - make new account and change name by adding number 2. Hes name wad damian so he added damian2. I saw his account this time and I was able to change it back to damian.

But the person never logged again and I have no idea what is going on.

Help, please!

Hello,

Did the user in question try a longer password?

What happened in second example.

They tried setup account under name Bert

Than they have setup password and system told them that there is limit 32 characters but they put only 5.

If they tried again, the system told them, that Bert is all ready taken.

Done and I will inform users about these shortcomings.

The firs problem is solved! :-)

Thanx guys for your help!
