Packager Group

Post by JennyorAlice on July 9th 2015, 12:58 am

A thought just occurred to me.

We have Reviewers here at the Forumotion Support Forum but we don't have any Packagers. I was asking myself, why don't we have Packagers? We have Reviewers to help give reviews on your forum, why don't we have a service to help boost activity? I would be willing to participate at a Packager, if it was added to the forum.

Do you think we should have Packagers at the Forumotion Support Forum? Why or why not?

What exactly would be the role for this title?

Well, they would be providing a service to the members of the Forumotion Support Forum just like the Reviewers do. A member could request a "package" for their forum that would help boost activity on their forum. The "package" would mean, a person would go to that individuals forum and post a few topics and/or replies. Just like the reviews that the Reviewers offer, members could choose from more than one "package" and there would be different requirements and a waiting period for each one.

Hi @Bazinga!

Thanks for your suggestion about having a Packagers team on Forumotion Support.

Generally speaking the reason why we don't have this kind of team is because I don't been suggested at all, ever. Which shows that really there isn't a demand for it on here. Unlike the review section we've actually had multiple suggestions for it before it was implemented. The review section was first introduced in 2007 I believe and was eventually brought to life in 2009.

There is also other factors to consider when introducing a new team to the support:

  1. Its got to be approved by Buttercup and in some instances changes or additions to a support forum need to also go through The Godfather
  2. In order for a new team to be made generally speaking a Manager or a long standing staff member has to take on the role of managing the team.
  3. Its really difficult to find staff members for teams. For example the review team is probably one of the easier teams to join on FM. All you need is good English and some free time to do reviews. However we've found it difficult to get people to do reviews and also to apply for the trial reviewers position. We get plenty of applicants but no one wants to do some reviews beforehand which is something we ask you to before applying. So it would be difficult to get staff members.

So while your suggestion is good, I'm not sure if the demand, the wish to manage it by an existing staff member and a dedicated amount of people willing to do the job is there and available.

I see your point, Derri, and I appreciate your input. I had come up with some ideas for this if it was decided on. Whether or not this is decided on will be up to the staff to decide.

I am up for the task of being a Packager if it is decided on but that is something else that is strictly up to the staff (mainly the owner/administrators/managers) to decide.

Though it's a nice idea to boost activity and stuff, it has quite some things that are unsettling. Perhaps we can polish the idea.
I think it'll be REALLY weird if you actually ask someone to just come on your forum and post some threads.. there are really hundreds of types of forums. I doubt you or anyone will ever be able to assemble a team that would know what kind of "interesting" topics to create in all the weird genres of forum we come across.

I've worked on another forum as a "Packager" before that had a list of all the packagers and it stated the interest, likes/dislikes, hobbies, etc. for each member of the team. That way they had the ability to request a packager based on that information that was provided. I know that each packager isn't going to be knowledgeable about everything. But each packager would have their strength's in different areas.

I apologize if this takes this discussion off topic but what about having an exchange area. Members could post a thread with their forum and ask if anyone wants to exchange posts/threads with them. They can request to exchange with any thread that they feel comfortable with depending on their own knowledge and in return they'd get posts/threads on their own forum.

I understand that this would have to be approved my the administration and the rest of the staff first. Especially since this would probably require moderation to a certain extent.

I think that a packager group would be an okay idea if it had a few tweaks. It is a bit weird for someone to log-in once a forum and post and leave soon. They might need to log in every so often? Also for the different types of areas, you could have a specialist for certain areas like anime, video games, role-plays, games, etc.

I just recently visited a big forum with this kind of team. This is actually a good idea to boost forum activity, but it'd be only applicable to forum sites with already an evident number of members but they simply want to boost again one's activity. It'd be a yes for me, but with reservations. (Poll is closed)

I actually had brought this up as well. I am planning on making a new thread and a more detailed and expanded version of this suggestion in the future. I'm going to wait a bit longer though until I do it.
