Posting bans for users

Post by Global Federation on Fri Jul 10 2015, 22:33

I would like to propose an option that would allow moderators and administrators ability to ban select users from posting.

The closest thing I've seen is to add users to groups and such but an option like this would make it much much easier to get around that. Let's say you have a spammer and you want to stop them from posting but you want him to see the punishment given with out outright banning him. With this option, you'd be able to stop them from posting outright for any amount of time.

You can sort of do that already all you need to do is go in the ACP and remove the rights for that member to post in all forums

I have not seen that. If you don't mind, could you point me in the direction?

Pretty much you have to make that user his/her own hidden group (he/she is the ONLY one who can and is it... Its just the username) and unchecking the username for everything. You ever seen forums where there are specific moderators who moderate a forum and their username comes up instead of the group? This is done in exactly the same way. Just go to the username in the admin panel, click permissions, un tick the re tick any 1 thing that is already ticked. This will automaticly create the hidden group of the user and then you can tick and untock their permissions in the forums and categories section from this point.

I understand how to do that but this suggestion was for a checkable button like you see in the AP where you can disable PM and attachments and such, plus, moderators would not be able to add or remove members from their selected group and if an admin was not available there'd be nothing they could do but outright ban the user and punishments like that are not what I tend to look for unless a severe case is present.

Moderators can not disable pms either, only admins, moderators can only stright ban, anything else like disabling pms and such have to be done by an admin.

I was comparing this proposed option to the ones we already have not in relation to who can use it.

I don't imagine it would be any harder to implement then most of the preferences that are on here. It would do one thing and that'd to disable posting for that specific user.

Well even if this was to be implemented, it could only be available to admins, becuase posting, private messages, etc are not prefrences, but permissions and rights to be adjusted by admins.
