Solved Spot.im

Post by GBDawg1 on July 21st 2015, 12:26 pm

Is it possible to embed Spot.im on my forum? If so, how do I do it?

Appreciate anyone's help.

It would help if you explain what it is.

It's a social network - it needs to be embedded, but I can't work out how to do it. It's a replacement (in a way) for the default chatbox.

Where do you want to place this chatbox?  Also what code do they give you to use?

Solved Re: Spot.im

Here are the instructions, but I am not sure where I need to place the codes (these are the codes from the help screen, not the actual ones for the site).

How it is supposed to look is like a button on the home screen which you can click and a pop-up chatbox appears (I think). I would use this to replace the generic chatbox.

  • Embed a single JavaScript code snippet into every page of your website. Your unique code snippet will be automatically generated once completing the signup process.

The code should be placed under the </head> tag.

Example of a JavaScript code snippet:

  • To display the comments area, place the following HTML snippet in every page you want comments to be presented on.

The POST_ID_GOES_HERE is a placeholder for a unique ID which directs Spot.IM to show a specific ‘comments thread’ (Note: We recommend placing a unique ID for each page). If you do not have a unique ID, use the clean version of the full URL path of the page and remove query string and hash part of the URL:

Thanks for your reply. So you are saying alter the code in the first box as you've described?

That's fine, but my problem is I don't know where to put the codes. Do they both go into modules/javascript code management? If so, what do I have to do after that?

You have lost me completely now. I don't understand what that link has to do with it?

I have entered the code exactly as you said but there is nothing appearing on my home page. Do I need to do something else because this doesn't seem to be working?

I can see that you have managed to post a comment on the site in the thread you linked on here. I don't know how you did it, but I've seen it now.

However, maybe I have misunderstood what spot.im is all about. I did not want a comments section on individual posts - people can reply to those anyway. I wanted the feature on the home page to replace the chatbox.

If it can't do that then it's not what I am looking for.

It says:

Simply copy and paste this code to right below the

but I don't know where to find where I should be pasting it.
