Post by jkh August 23rd 2015, 6:53 pm

Hi

Some of my members are reporting problems typing messages on my forum with letters missing or being jumbled up.

I don't know what the problem is as it's not happening to me, but I did make a change to my forum the other day, after following a tip on this forum, but I don't know how to un-do the change and now I can't find where I read about it on this forum. The change I made was for messages not to disappear if someone loses a computer connection or inadvertently goes to a different page....that they can come back to where they were and the message is still there...if you get me drift.

Can anyone help please?

Many thanks

These screenshots go some way to explain the problem some of my members are having with the forum.

The url is http://jillhavern.forumotion.net/

As I said, I made a change somewhere in the Admin Panel to stop people losing their posts if they navigate away from the page where they were posting - a few people have said something like "I've just posted a long post and it's disappeared"... and the change I made in the AP stopped that happening....but I can't remember what that change was and how I did it and I'm not even sure if that is the problem anyway, but I thought I could undo the change and see if it helps my members with their problem.

Hi,

Do you mean the 'saved progress' feature? Where it won't lose someone's message if something happens to connection?

I don't think so cos I didn't have to add any javascript code. I think I just 'ticked a box' (so to speak) and clicked 'save'.

Ok, do you know where in the acp (admin panel) you were when you made the change? Doesn't have to be exact, just like a tab or area or whatever.

'Fraid not....I've looked in all sections.

Is there such a thing as a 'system restore' (like on your computer) where you can undo recent changes and make the forum go back to a previous time?

Yes indeed there is, in the Founder tools, you just have to go to your forum utilites: https://www.forumotion.com/utils put in the info you used to create the forum, email, password etc. Go to system restore.

Choose one of the options, restore back to the second oldest date then the newest one, the old one will restore the old settings, the new one will bring back all new posts and members.

Note: That it must done twice, once on an older date and once on the newest date available, after doing this, all posts and users should still be there, but it may look like its not. You may have to bump some topics up to make the forum look back to sorts.
