Solved Issue with forum display

Post by Anzo on October 2nd 2015, 4:36 am

Hi,

This is kind of weird so i'll try to make it short.

I was logged in today to my forum when i made some skin changes, it all looked good and everything. When I logged out, a lot changed.

For instance, this is how it looked like when i was a guest viewing the forum:
1. The Wrap is acting weird: http://prntscr.com/8mrkjy
2. This is not right: http://prntscr.com/8mrkn7

How it SHOULD look like: (This is me logged-in)
1. It looks good: http://prntscr.com/8mrkwt
2. All good as well: http://prntscr.com/8mrl00

A few hours ago I made this topic: http://help.forumotion.com/t143648-toolbar-not-showing-on-my-index

Not sure if the two problems are connected or something, but I could use a quick fix.

Hello,

Let me see if I understand this correctly, the footer links area of your forum is messed up only when logged out? When your logged in it appears though?

When you're logged out, your forum doesn't seem to be attached properly. It's difficult to explain, so look at these images.

vs

I don't know how to fix it, but Im hoping that this will help someone else figure out what the problem is.

EDIT - Is it possible that the advertisements are doing this? Can you link to your forum please?

Did you exactly install a new theme or modified the footer area by modifying the templates? There are sections for both online and offline in the templates.

I had the skin tested in another forum. Exported it snd then imported into my forum. After that i changed the templates since they weren't imported. I added the CSS right after.

I made the skin myself. It's not a hotskin skin.

Solved Re: Issue with forum display

Post by Ange Tuteur on October 2nd 2015, 12:17 pm

Hi @Anzo,

It looks like you need to clear your floats on the page body outer wrapper ( it ran deeper than I thought Shocked ) so the height is calculated correctly. Add this CSS rule to your stylesheet :
Code:
#outer-wrapper:after {
  content: ".";
  visibility: hidden;
  display: block;
  height: 0;
  clear: both;
}

You can also add this at the end of that wrapper in your templates :
Code:
<div class="clear"></div>
After that you can remove the CSS, since this does the same thing.

EDIT :
This is a good read to teach you about the "phenomenon" ( or "great collapse" ) of floats Razz

The wrapper is fixed now it seems; however, the online thingy at the bottom remains faulty.

This is how it looks now for guests (minus the adds): http://i.imgur.com/UfEjQfi.png

Do you use javascript to create an element and attach the stats to it ? I checked while logged in and logged out. The top console you can see that the element contains the who is online portion, but while logged out, it appears this element -- #online_all_wrap1 -- is null. ( bottom console )

Haven't been able to catch him online so I went and checked the JS myself. We're only running a couple of JS at the moment and they have nothing to do with anything that is on the Index. It must be something else.

The whole "#online_all_wrap1" looks like it just disappears when logged out.

Solved Re: Issue with forum display

Post by Ange Tuteur on October 5th 2015, 2:45 pm

It's definitely nothing JavaScript related since I disabled it while logged in. The only thing I can think of would be :

1. A widget
- Because you can set permissions

2. Templates
- Because there are tags related to the login state here

Check your widgets first to see if there's anything with viewing permissions only for members +. If there's nothing in there, could you provide me your index_body so I can take a look at it ?

I assume it's the latter, but I just want to cover everything.

I disabled the widgets and the issue remained: http://prntscr.com/8nzg3s

It has to the the index_body then?

This is the index_body template:

Solved Re: Issue with forum display

Post by Ange Tuteur on October 5th 2015, 6:16 pm

Ah, it definitely is.. See this :
Code:
  <!-- BEGIN switch_viewonline_link -->
<div id="online_all_wrap1">
  <div class="h3x"><a id="on_users1" href="{U_VIEWONLINE}" rel="nofollow">{L_WHO_IS_ONLINE}</a></div>
  <!-- END switch_viewonline_link -->

Depending on the viewing permissions switch_viewonline_link wont display the content between these tags for guests if the permissions for the view online page are members+. Inside that is the start of the container : <div id="online_all_wrap1">

So, try replacing this :
Code:
  <!-- BEGIN switch_viewonline_link -->
<div id="online_all_wrap1">
  <div class="h3x"><a id="on_users1" href="{U_VIEWONLINE}" rel="nofollow">{L_WHO_IS_ONLINE}</a></div>
  <!-- END switch_viewonline_link -->

by :
Code:
<div id="online_all_wrap1">
  <!-- BEGIN switch_viewonline_link -->
  <div class="h3x"><a id="on_users1" href="{U_VIEWONLINE}" rel="nofollow">{L_WHO_IS_ONLINE}</a></div>
  <!-- END switch_viewonline_link -->

and everything should be good. thumleft

Okay, but the Legends still doesn't show .-.

EDIT: It shows now.

Though, I removed "position:absolute;" from "online_all_wrap1" because I was hoping there is a better solution to have the "online_all_wrap1" extend all the way to the end of the wrap without having to use that position CSS. When I do i must set a padding for the "wrap" element which isn't flexible.

The only thing I can think of would be to use JavaScript to manipulate the position. Add this script in the homepage :
Code:
$(function() {
  var qeel = document.getElementById('online_all_wrap1'), wrap = document.getElementById('wrapper');
  if (qeel && wrap) wrap.appendChild(qeel);
});

Then add this CSS :
Code:
#online_all_wrap1 { clear:both }

Weird, did you add the CSS I gave you ? That's supposed to clear the floats of the content container and right. Otherwise those containers would overlap the who is online portion when added to #wrapper.

Don't worry about it, you're welcome. Smile

The semi-colon is actually optional on the last property:value declaration in a CSS rule, but I think you copied it into an existing rule, right ? I should probably include them regardless, it's a bad habit of mine when there's only one declaration in a rule. Razz

So everything is good now ? ^^
