Client Sided Themes

Post by dyl on October 27th 2015, 10:39 pm

So its pretty obvious you can pick a theme for the entire forum, however, some users of the forum overtime, may get a little bit bored of the theme, but however, you don't want to change it for everyone since some people might hate for it to change.

So whats my idea?
Client Sided Themes.

What i mean by this is, the user goes somewhere on the forum (profile, as an example) and an option called "theme" is there, the user clicks that, and then gets to choose what theme they want

But you might ask, "what if they take something from hitskin that looks odd and nothing to do with the forum and possibly ruins the forum function"

Well in the admin panel, the admin can go to Display>Themes, then a section called "Theme Choice" or something similar, can be there, and the admin can make a few themes that a registered user can choose,

And also there can be themes for user groups

So certain themes can be for certain user groups or for administrators.

This would be quite a good addition to implement, i don't know how hard it is to implement, but shouldn't be too hard, it also gives customization to a user, of course an admin does not have to have this feature in place

I hope this idea gets considered, this would be one i'd like to see

P.S: My forum version is phpBB2

There is a tutorial in the Tips & Tricks section that lets you add a theme picker. It does not change the whole theme, liek images.

Alright that has partially fulfilled my needs, but is there a site to upload my themes so i can utilize the javascript code? i need this because the themes that are in the JS code are for phpBB3, i use phpBB2, and also because i want the themes to look similar to each other ( I know there is hitskin, but i don't want my themes getting uploaded so some guy can use them) and perhaps if there is a way to make it so its for a usergroup only (as a kind of reward for users)
