Solved Topics and/or sections accessible only via password

Post by Ox-Lime on January 7th 2016, 2:40 pm

Hi!

I'm new to all this and i have a forum for a game guild members. Some of them do not wish to register to the forum, but to provide safety, i must forbid guests to have access. So I was wondering, if it is possible to make a topic or even a section with categories and forums, that would require a password to be accessed and could be accessed by guests as well as registered users that provide that password.

I did a search on it in your forum, but i wasn't able to find the answer to my question. All i got was posts with lost passwords. Very Happy

Sincerely,
Ox-Lime

Hello Wink

Passworded forums are absolutely unsafe because of several reasons:

-When you give the password to one user, that user could tell the password to people that doesn't meant to have access to it.

-The password can be easily found with a basic JavaScript knowledge, so an intruder could get the password and see the "secret" section.

From my point of view, if one user wants truly participate in your forum he/she will not have any problem in spent a few minutes registering in your forum, and, in addition, managing registred users is always easier than managing guest.

It's better to play with forum permissions. It will be easier and of course much safer.

That's my opinion Wink

Thank you ^^
If it's so easily bypassed then I must agree that there is no point for it.
