Solved Forum Phishing/Bots...?

Post by Norton on March 23rd 2016, 11:00 pm

Is it possible for a forum Admin to track a member that's logged In and who's activity on the forum appears to be (phishing/bots...) suspicious.

By tracking; I mean, does the Admin have the ability to view the topic(s) that the member/bot... are actually viewing (who's on line) by way of AP. Currently the AP just indicates member user name "Searching Forums"

I had a new member join our forum, user name was always hidden. The member logged in every evening around the same time but never posted. I got a little suspicious of the members activity and checked who's on line through the AP. Every visit, this same member was shown in the AP as searching the forums for hours before logging off. I became suspicious and changed the search function permissions temporarily to Admin only. Within two weeks of changing the search permissions, his activity on the forum decreased. I fully expected the member to send a PM or a post to ask why the search function was inoperative; he never did send any communication via a PM or post a message. I banned the member and his IP address.

Thanks Ape. That's what I do the view of who's on line from the AP just says "user name "Searching Forums" I think it would be a good idea if the Admin could actually see what the member/bot is actually viewing or looking for. This would enable Admins to decide if this new member who has never posted is phishing and for what. Are they "Targeting" certain members posts for whatever reasons. That's the reason I banned the member, I suspect he was looking for or targeting specific members posts. We have banned many members for distasteful, disrespectful post. At least they were posting which makes the decision to ban them easy.

I think I may be asking too much from FM

LOL its not asking to much but right now that is the only way Sad
If the tools say "Searching Forums" That means there using the search system and not looking over the forum threads.

If it was one of the main Bots it will show up in the members online at the bottom of the page.

if its a spam bot it will post after some time.
Most of the time i Say welcome to them and then you get the post back and if no reply by 1 week i send a Email asking why they have not posted ..If no reply from them then i delete the account.

Also if you would like to see some thing new in the ACP or on your forum you can always use this forum and ask for a new tool Click here >> Suggestions
Try and give as much info about what you really would like to see and then the members will be clear before making there Votes.
