Description of problem

Greetings,

A while ago the forum was restored and the old posts were moved into hidden archives. Each time a new topic is made now, the first post is not the actual first post but a post that is being pulled up from the archives.

http://www.fairytailrp.com/t36604-fixed-now#339610
http://www.fairytailrp.com/t36603-what-about-now#339609

As you can see while the topic was made just moments ago, the first post is a post from 2015 from the archives.

Regards,

Cas

You have posted in this topic. Fixed now?

You have posted in this topic. What about now
Started by Jyu, Yesterday at 7:12 pm

I made those topics yesterday but when you click on it the first post is a post from the archives from 2015. Why is there an old post from a year ago showing up when a new topic is made?

http://www.fairytailrp.com/t36604-fixed-now#339610

So this topic ^ Started by Jyu, Yesterday at 7:13 pm
Yet when you click on it an old post from 2015 shows as the first post and then my actual post is there as the 2nd post.

So the question is why are old archived posts showing up as the first post when members make a new topic and how do I stop this?

Regards,

Cas

Solved Re: New Topic Shows Old Posts First

Post by Castiel June 19th 2016, 7:22 pm

Hey Ape,

That function is already disabled. First post reminder serves as a function to show the first post that was made in the topic when the topic has multiple pages. When topics are made they only have one page so this could not be the problem.

Besides sometimes it shows one post, sometimes like in the second example that I added it shows two posts from the archives before your own actual post is made. As you can see there is no topic reminder, it's only a single page, and the function is disabled either way. It pulls posts from the archives randomly whenever someone creates a topic and adds them as post 1 and post 2 of the topic.

We thought the problem might have to do something with Forumotion's database cause we restored the forum recently to 2015 however we have never experienced a problem like this in the past when we restored the forum.

ok when you did a forum restore did you do 2 backups or just the one ?

it looks like the backups are still pending
Please read here https://help.forumotion.com/t131122-backup-of-your-forum

EDIT: i have logged in and seen what your saying but what i don't understand is when you say the 2 posts at the top of this thread you asked me to look at was in the archives im not really getting what you mean by that.

we this thread locked and moved to a place not seen by members or was it just a old thread that was not locked ?

if this thread was not locked then any member can post in it again.

if you did a backup and did not restore it back to todays date then your posts will be moved back.

our system now has new ways to backup and it must be followed right or your older posts will be unlocked.

Solved Re: New Topic Shows Old Posts First

Post by Castiel June 20th 2016, 2:37 pm

I am aware that old posts get unlocked as well, that was my intention, but that's not the problem. I'll try to explain it like this cause I can see why it's confusing:

1. I backed up the forum completely to 2015, restoring the old theme, posts and everything else.

2. I moved all the old topics and posts that were unlocked with the backup into a hidden archive forum.

3. When members create a topic, today, their post is broken and instead of having their own post shown the forum shows old posts from the archives after which their own post is shown.

So I did restore all the old posts, but I then moved them to hidden archives. Yet, when a post is made today, posts from the hidden archive are pulled out of it and shown in present day posts.

A member made a topic today as a test: http://www.fairytailrp.com/t36619-videns-test-character
Topic: Videns test character
Started by Videns, Today at 4:02 pm

He only posted the word test. The first post in that topic should be his post with the word test cause he made the topic. But even though he made a new topic, his post saying 'test' is not the first post, it pulls posts from 2015, from the hidden archives, and then places them above new posts and new topics.

So every time you make a topic, your post never shows as first. It always pulls posts from the hidden archives and puts them above your own post. I don't know why the forum is doing this?

Didn't work unfortunately. I have deleted every single post on the forum now and posted a new topic http://www.fairytailrp.com/t36621-first-topic but it is still happening.

How can posts that are deleted and no longer exist still show up and why does it show up in new topics of people?

When I go to ACP > Categories & Forums it says that there are still posts in the forums which is strange because all the old forums got deleted and these are new forums with 0 posts in them.

Hello i also think you did the back up wrong.

Try and back up your forum again.

using the dates you want to go back on then leave it 2 minuets then refresh the page then go to the newest date  found on your forum tools.

Then leave your site for 2 more minuets then refresh  your page but make sure you do not leave your founders tools page until you are told your backup is done.

I did a full backup because I wanted the theme and members back to an older date but I don't need the old posts so I deleted all the posts and forums and made new forums.

I need it to stop showing old posts when new topics are created because there 0 old posts on the forum yet it still shows old posts when members post a new topic.

Ok, but all the new members and posts after that restored date would be gone.  Did you not restore your forum back to a present date?

Did you use the forum's utilities?

I did not restore the forum back to a present date. I used the forum utilities for a full backup to 2015 and that was it, then I deleted all the old forums and made new forums but when I post a topic old posts that no longer exist show up.

Solved Re: New Topic Shows Old Posts First

Post by brandon_g June 20th 2016, 5:30 pm

Hello,

May you try doing the back up again, this time, make sure you also do a back up to the newest date available in the utilities after you back up to the date that you like, that way the system will be able to ensure all the latest stuff is updated, this should also re lock all the old topics you dont need again as well. Wink

If after you back up your forum again, in the manner described above, your forum is still having this issue, we will make a report to the head office so that it can be looked into by the pro staff. Very Happy

-Brandon

Edit: That is your problem then, you need to back the forum up to the most recent date available in the utilities, after performing the back up to 2015, you have to re back up the forum a second time to the most recent date possible. You did not do this, I bet that is what is causing the problem for you. Make sure you back up to the latest date as well from now on.

our system don't work like that you have to do a full backup 2 times one on the date you wanted the theme to be took back to then you have to do one the latest date showing on your tools "in your case it is 14/06/2016" so all your backups would backup your theme then it would put your posts back to that date. then after the forum is backed up you could delete all your posts.

I did a backup of users and messages to 14/06/2016 today as well but it didn't work and I had to delete all the old forums again. But, on 14/06/2016 the forum was already backed up to 2015, perhaps that was the problem? Should I back it up to a date before I did the backup to 2015?

Solved Re: New Topic Shows Old Posts First

Post by Ape June 20th 2016, 5:47 pm

The problem is our system has now made a new backup of your forum.

you had to do the backup 2 times in the same day to get your forum to back its self up as you left this over 12 hrs our system then give the last date as the one you have now.

what you have to do is back up your forum to the date you wanted then do a backup of the latests date all on the same day.

NOTE: you can only do one set (2 backups) before you hit your limit a day.

if you read the link i posted before your see what i mean .

So this is what  should have done from day one.

logged in your founders tools and clicked Full backup picked the date you wanted your forum backup to.
Then you should have picked the newest date on the top of your list of dates that would have reset your forum to the date you wanted and then made a new backup on the date you picked last.

then things would have been ok but now you have backed your forum to the older date and then not done the 2nd step there is not a lot we can do other then back your forum to a older date

but your have to hold out for 48hrs to do this as you have already done a backup today.

When you do a full restore, it restores the forum to that date.  If anything was added after that date, it will be gone.  This could include members, topics, posts, graphics, etc.

This is the reason why you have to do two full back ups on the same day.

Oldest Date:  The one you want.
A Present Date:  To get back lost information after the oldest date restore.

But I don't mind that anything added after 2015 is gone, I don't need the backup anymore, I want to start fresh. That's why I deleted everything, all the old forums and posts and made new forums. But still if I post http://www.fairytailrp.com/t36626-test-6#339652 it happens

I made a topic called Test 6 and a post called Test 6, look at where my post is. There are posts above my own post for no reason at all and these posts don't even exist because they are all deleted. I have no 0 old posts on my forum.
