Solved Inappropriate Advertising on Front Page

Post by Rouge July 15th 2016, 5:44 pm

Hello guys ...

Sorry to bother you but ... I've noticed that all of a sudden I'm getting inappropriate advertising on my website.  Now, I don't mind the advertising; especially if it coincides with my website content (but most times it doesn't)

I took a screenshot of this advertising and I really don't like advertising images and such of this nature.

Do I really have to have advertising such as this on the front page of website?  I'm not trying to get members that are into asian girls or meeting singles... not cool!

Inappropriate Advertising on Front Page Image10

Once again, thanks for everything!

You guys rock ... STILL !!

Solved Re: Inappropriate Advertising on Front Page

Post by Shadow July 15th 2016, 5:48 pm

Hello,

Can you provide the link? Right click, copy the link. Also we need the code of the banner. Right click on the banner, inspect the element and then copy the block and put it her into [code] balises please. I'm asking you that so that we can identify the provider of this ad and inform him that it is inappropriate.

Thank you.

Solved Re: Inappropriate Advertising on Front Page

Post by Kerrick July 18th 2016, 10:48 pm

A number of users on the forum I mod/admin have been complaining of pornographic and otherwise inappropriate ads as well. Being a Christian (heavy metal) forum, this is particularly not appreciated... I saw this thread and checked the Java and colors and didn't see anything odd or out of place. I use adblocker so I haven't personally seen any of these ads but numerous users have brought this to my attention... Any help would be greatly appreciated! Here's the link to the forum:

To help you I need the code of the ad, or at least the link but as you're the only user reporting this issue I'm pretty sure this comes from an external source.

Leviosa wrote:Hello @Kerrick,

Thanks @Leviosa,

Forgive my ignorance, but how does an external source latch itself onto a Forumotion page? I'm a member of one or two other Forumotion forums that have had no such issues. What can I do to unlatch this? Here's a private message I got from one of our members. I recommend NOT clicking the link unless you need to...

Christian Metal Realm User wrote:Hi guys. I was reading the pop up/ad problem thread and didn't want to post this link in there, but there definitely seems to be a problem as of late. I've never had this problem on CMR before in my 15 years of being here, but probably 3 or 4 times now recently, this webpage has popped up:

http://date-for-adults.com/?u=gvdkd0x&o=5emg9u1&t=atmx#

I don't know if you want to click on it because maybe it has a virus (?) - and because it is a porn site. I'm just sharing so you are aware in case others are saying the same thing. This happened to me several weeks ago, and then seemed to stop. Then again today it happened again. Several days ago I had the same problem some of the people are mentioning of websites coming up talking about having viruses on your computer too.

I'm not using a phone to access CMR, just a laptop. It also seems to happen on chrome (only?) more than other browsers. It's possibly only Chrome, but I can't guarantee that because I don't remember which browser I was using when it first started happening. Today it is only happening on Chrome.

Anyway I know you said there's nothing you can really do about it, but it almost seems like this is a hacking problem maybe - and it sucks they are using porn popups on a Christian site. Something we should definitely pray about.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated issue. In the last week, I've had multiple users express frustrations with inappropriate and invasive ads, etc. This has never been an issue in the past and then all of the sudden we've been bombarded with this junk.

Another CMR User wrote:Well the ads here have resorted to a new low. I log in today and the page gets redirected to some malware page that Norton blocked.

Another CMR User wrote:I'm at a loss. I'm half tempted to make a video of all the dead end pop ups Forumotion takes me too to show Exo [another moderator]. Literally, I have to close the browser entirely about 5 times just to get to one thread.

It's this white screen that buzzes, says my phone (and references the wrong model number) has 8-13 viruses on it and tries to get me to download this anti-virus app. I've ran malware apps, anti virus apps, even the anti virus it recommends... no infection found, yet these popups resume.

ONLY on the CMR. No other sites do this...
(Samsung Galaxy S4)

Firefox keeps the ads at bay, but embedded videos don't work. Flash fox (Firefox with flash) works, but it's glitchy and clunkier than a beta. Big brother Chrome shows embedded videos, but there's these phone-stopping really invasive ads. Again, only here...

Another CMR User wrote:About 3 days ago, I started experiencing the same thing Thomas is talking about on my GS5. I usually keep a tab open for this site, but when the pop-up starts, I have to close it and try to re-open it to get to the site. I ran a virus scan this morning and everything seems ok for the moment.

Another CMR User wrote:That is EXACTLY what happens with my Galaxy S5! I couldn't describe it better!

Thank you!

Hi there .... wasn't able to get back to you sooner than this. I know you guys are doing your best to correct the inappropriate ads and such and thanks for it!! Razz

edit: had to come back and give you the website link duuuh:

http://quantumgraphics.forumotion.com

Wow, it appears as though the problem has become worst as far as the viruses and popups are concerned. Never had this problem as long as I've had an account here which has been forever Smile At any rate...

I'm getting a lot of complaints from guests who visit the website and recently my latest member sent this ...

Problem with Quantum Graphics
Hate to tell you this but it looks like it is infected. Everytime I go there I get pages opening up. Sometimes it advertisements and others are pages claiming to be microsoft and I need to call them due to an infection. I have ran 4 different virus scanners and server adware scanners and all show my system to be clean. I only get those popping up when I visit Quantum Graphics. I have to use task manager to shut them down. Might be reason you aren't getting much traffic. You work is awesome

I know you guys hate to hear negative feedback about your forum services but if we don't tell you, you won't know.

Instead of using my laptop to access my website -- even though I know for a fact my laptop is clean as the Board of Health. My instructure allowed me to use his laptop to access my website and sure enough the site was blocked and I was unable to even go to the url. He tracked it down to a galaxyearth.com and another one called packvisa.com Every now and then I can log into my website but most times I can't. It isn't me!

Is there anyone available that could give me suggestions on what I should do to get the website back in order?

It's as if the problem all of a sudden started.

Once again, thanks so much for everything you guys have done and you've been totally awesome about helping us with the forums.

Respectively (You Reign Supreme)

Hello @Rouge,

The microsoft pop up is problem we had recently with an ad or something. You can read more about it here: https://help.forumotion.com/t147761-only-topic-malicious-microsoft-ad-pop-up . It should be solved now and this pop up should no longer occur.

If you are still getting it today though, you should make a report in that topic so our pro staff know and can look into it further. Wink

As you are unfortunately the only user having this particular problem, there's a chance that this pop up comes from something add in some of the codes you have added to your forum, CSS, JS or even widgets. But it could be from a banner from one of our provider and if it is the case, well normally there would be more reports but anyway if it is the case here's what we will need to identify the banner and transmit the information to our provider:

  • The country in which you are connected
  • The link of the banner (right click and copy the link)
  • The code of the banner ( right click, inspect copy and paste the code here)

@Rouge, Normally the problem with the "microsoft ads" should be fixed by now. Smile
