Solved Restore Question

Post by Draxion August 2nd 2016, 3:50 pm

This isn't really a problem but more of a question regarding a problem. It's the Forumotion Restore service. I have already read through the many topics regarding the matter, but I haven't found the answer to my question.

1.) When the forum is restored to a previous date, does that include all deleted data will return? I know forums would for sure... but what about posts?

2.) Would users who have registered after the restore date have to re-register, and would their posts and topics be removed as well?

That is all I can think of that are my biggest questions regarding this matter. Thank you so much for taking the time to read and assist. Any answer would be greatly appreciated.

Solved Re: Restore Question

Post by brandon_g August 2nd 2016, 4:04 pm

Hello,

Number one depends on the type of restore you perform, if you perform a full restore, it will bring posts, topics, users (even ones deleted after that restore date), any posts you moved or deleted after the restore date will return, any users you banned after that date will be unbanned, etc in addition any changes to the forum after that date will no longer be there.

As for number 2, This is a no, IF you perform the restores correctly. To ensure all recent stuff remains, you must actually perform 2 restores. One to the date you which to back your forum up to and then another to the most recent date, this way any posts, forums, users, etc from the previous restore date will return, plus all recent users and posts etc.

In addition to all this if you have alot of customized css, javascript or templates it is recommended you back up all this before performing the back ups, that way if something does wrong, you can always manually re add it all and thus everything will ok. Wink

Hope this helps answer your remaining questions,

-Brandon
