Solved How to copy a scrolling block or table ?

Post by azwiz on October 8th 2016, 2:04 pm

I often run into lists condensed in a scrolling table like this one

If if copy and paste it . It just comes out a list that will scroll the page . But not within the page as original . Can someone help with this ?

So what do you want exactly? Cause I am confused a little about you wanting to 'copy' the scrolling. Are you asking how to make a table that scrolls?

Yes . Both would be nice . To be able to recreate the same scrolling block . And or be able to create my own

I believe you really can not copy and paste a scrolling list. You will have to copy and paste the information then add scrolling to it.

I believe you are correct . I would like to know how to do that. I do not mean an auto scrolling list . Just a list contained in a box for which it can scroll .

It depends where you want to add it. In postings? Then you can make a html page and embed it in posts with an iframe

Google will spit out thousands of pages that will explain how to make a scrolling table for html.

You can create a table with a certain id and then style it in your CSS to have certain height and the overflow element to be visible. For example:
BBCode
Code:
[table id="scrollingBlock"][tr][td]LIST HERE[/td][/tr][/table]
HTML
Code:
<table id="scrollingBlock"><tr><td>LIST HERE</td></tr></table>

Then in your CSS:
Code:
table#scrollingBlock {
display: block;
width: 200px;
height:350px;
overflow-y:visible;
overflow-x:auto;
}

That way your block will have a width of 200px and height 350px and the overflow will be visible.

Ow very nice Luffy, thanks. Learned something again.

If I am correct, it is also possible to loose the width in the css code if tables need different sizes and add the width to each table itself.
style="width: ??px;"

Yes exactly. It's preferable though to do it through CSS because then you save time from locating the code and changing the style from the code, but yes you can also do it like that! Smile
