Solved Possible bug regarding user activation settings

Post by Hollow Shinigami 17th October 2016, 12:58

Hi, I hope I'm putting this post in the right section. Sorry if it's not.

Today my forum had a new member sign up, and activate themself via email - before today, we believed our security settings were on admin/moderator approval only for all new members. However, there is no record in the sites' logs to show that any of the mods have changed this setting, or any other general settings since the 2nd of the month, and I know I didn't change it myself. I can also say that this change has only happened some time within the past week, as I only had another new member sign up about a week prior to this, and had to provide admin approval for their account.

Is there any changes that happened in the past week which may account for this, or is this a bug exclusive to my site? I have since changed the security settings back to admin approval only for new members, but I am concerned that this may happen again if the source of the issue is not found. Does anyone have any ideas? I can provide more info if requested.

Hello everybody!
It is (was!) the same to me! For random I noticed yesterday, that there were 5 new accounts which were waiting. Wondering, I check them and activated them. Today again a new member and I checked everything..
- mails for new members was set to NONE - was "Admin"
- new login to enter the adminpanel was set to NO - was YES
- Activating new members was set to member - was ADMIN
The first new member was 09.october.
Also my Co-Admin did not received an email, was also wondering because normaly a few new guys comes every week to us..

The security-check showed only normal action from me at reasonable time, no "passwort-Hiker". My Co-Admin is ill and too busy to check or change something

Solved Re: Possible bug regarding user activation settings

Hello,

This was caused by an issue with an update. As Leviosa explained in this topic: https://help.forumotion.com/t148530-change-to-admin-panel-settings-help

Leviosa wrote:Hello,

Thank you for reporting this problem. After verification, it turns out, in fact it comes from our end.

In fact, it is a mistake in the execution of a script intended to update the value of these fields on some forums with spams that caused this problem !
This had the side effect the passage of the option to enable users to "administrator" or "Automatic" to "members" on some forums!

Unfortunately it is impossible for us to recover the initial value of this field. Nevertheless the forum administrator is free to change this option again depending on what he wants.

Sorry for the mistake and the inconvenience ! Possible bug regarding user activation settings 1f62d

You can simply change the setting back to what it was and should remain there.

Sorry about the inconvience. Sad
