In progress Security Warning/Virus

Post by Morganwigge November 4th 2016, 12:05 am

Hello,

I am the administrator of a fantasy hockey forum hosted by forumotion. URL: http://fhl-since-1993.forumotion.net/

One of our members receives a security warning each time he visits the site. This is the message he receives:

Exploit Social Engineering Type 1989

Social engineering

Affected Operating Systems: All Windows OS
Social engineering Summary
Social engineering is a malicious code present on fraudulent websites or illegally injected on legitimate but hacked websites without the knowledge of the administrator. The intention behind these code injections is to detect and exploit vulnerabilities on applications installed on your computer to install malicious and unwanted software that compromise the security of all data on the affected PC.

He has also received a virus warning: Script Sake Alert

All of our members are concerned.

Could you please provide some insight into this security issue.

Thank you,

Paul

What was this member doing right before the message appeared?

Also let the member know about this: http://blog.removevirusnow.org/social-engineering-version-1989-removal/ .

I'm not sure. He did say the forumotion site is the only site on which he receives this message.

So it might just be malware - something he would have to remove from his PC(?)

If yes, that's good to know.

Unsure, I'll ask him.

This issue has been present for a bit, so he may have acquired the malware just about anywhere.

Again unsure. I've sent him a message, will post his reply.

Is Chrome more, or less susceptible to these types of issues?

I really do not know.

Here is something that you could try on your end: https://help.forumotion.com/t128897-how-to-clean-up-your-forum-after-a-google-chrome-malware-alert#863169 .
