Solved Forum widgets

Post by jkh on November 21st 2016, 10:04 am

I've just tried displaying forum widgets similar to those I've got on my Portal.
I initially put them in the left hand column but didn't like them there so I moved them to the right hand column but they aren't visible alongside the actual forum, they are displayed right at the bottom in a long vertical line which looks daft.

Also because I'd got 15 widgets on display it took a long time for the forum to load but would still like to display 'most recent topics' if nothing else.

I've removed the widgets from view again now til I can sort it out and wonder if anyone knows what the problem might be please?

At the moment my settings in the Admin Panel look like this.

Thank you Skouliki (again!)

Screenshot number 1 is the top of the forum where there is now a large margin with nothing in it.

Screenshot number 2 is the bottom of the forum and you can see the widget underneath on the right instead of in the column.
Even if I make column 3 wider it won't go in there.

This third screenshot (which I've created in Paint) shows that the widget would sit comfortably within the 3rd column

Code:
#content-container div#right {
    float: right;
    overflow: hidden;
    width: 220px;
    padding-top: 46px;
}

No, it didn't work.

Would it help to reduce the width where it says 220px ?

I've reduced the width to 180 px and the widget now fits in the column.

But it's a tiny bit low, so is there a way to make it go a bit higher so that it's level with the other column?

That made the widgets go lower.

What should I adjust the 145px to? Should it be a lower number or a higher number?

eta: I've experimented with lower and higher numbers but the widgets just go lower either way.

You have helped me a lot skouliki with many things which I appreciate.

It's only the OCD in me that wants it perfectly level Laughing

But the main thing is, the widgets are now being displayed in the right hand column and they are pretty much where I want them to be - the column just needs tweaking a bit somehow.

Have you tried negative numbers?

Yes, I have.

For some strange reason the widgets go down the forum whether I increase or decrease the numbers.

Solved Re: Forum widgets

Hello, I believe the problem lies within your coding.

Code:
#content-container div#right {
    float: right;
    overflow: hidden;
    width: 220px;
    padding-top: 46px;
}

Remove 'padding-top: 46px;' and see if that fixes your issue.

I put the same code on my forum and that's what happened to my widgets.

You could try adding "padding-top: -10px" to the CSS block and perhaps remove the top tag all together.

See if doing negative padding will shift the container box up?

Code:

#content-container div#right {
position: relative;
padding-top: 145px;
}

edit: I only saw SLGray had posted a message - didn't see Drax. Razz

Yes, that's my forum. But if you look at where the like button widgets are they're not quite in line with the 'grey strapline'.
And the translation widgets are a bit high as they're not in line with the grey 'forum' cell.

Just me being fussy. If it can't be perfected then I can live with it.

At least the widgets are there! Very good

Check to see if this is in your CSS stylesheet.
Code:
#content-container div#right {
  float: right;
  overflow: hidden;
  padding-top: 46px;
  width: 180px;
}
Change the padding-top part.
