Solved Search and search widget

Post by Dollymixture on February 13th 2017, 3:18 am

Hello, I am new and in the process of creating my forum. Please can you tell me the difference between the Search which appears at the top right of the forum and the Search widget? If you have the Search widget activated do you need the Search and if not how do you disable the Search (not the widget).

Also how do you remove the Personalised and Contact fields entirely from the Profile?

Thankyou,
Dollymixture.

AP > Users & Groups > Users > Profiles
Modify the field you want. Uncheck the display boxes (profiles & profiles in messages).

I have unchecked all boxes for the fields I wish to remove, but the strange thing is whilst some fields are no longer displayed, some remain. The ones remaining which I don't want are Gender, Birthday, Humor, Job/Hobbies, Comments. I have unchecked the boxes for these in the same way as the others but these remain. It is most baffling.

They will appear there, but not in the members' profiles or the profiles in posts.

The second screenshot I sent you is my Admin profile and those fields which I unchecked are appearing on my profile.

I know. When you go to the edit profile, they appear, but they will not appear in the other profile and profile in posts.

When I am in the forum as Admin but not in the Admin panel, I click on Profile on the navigation menu in the forum those fields are appearing.

I know, but they will not appear if you view someone else profile or in posts. Also if you click your username which will load your profile.

I have tried clicking on my username in the forum but get the same thing. If I am clicking on the wrong profile this still doesn't explain why some fields are displayed and others are not despite them all being unchecked.

I thought I'd see if I could remove a profile field using CSS. I clicked on my Admin profile and then did "Inspect element" to get the element of the Location field.

I tried
a.profile_field_13_-9 {display:none}
But this didn't work. What should I put?

Code:
a.profile_field_13_-9 {
    display:none !important;
}
If this does not work, add the code at the top of the stylesheet.

I put it at the top, and it didn't work sadly. Should it be something else instead of a.

# refers to the id so I tried

#profile_field_13_-9 {
display:none !important;
}

But this didn't work either.

I believe you will have to edit the templates to achieve what you want.

Solved Re: Search and search widget

Post by Dollymixture on February 23rd 2017, 8:39 pm

I looked at the Profile template and couldn't find anything which seemed to deal with the Profile fields such as Gender, Location etc.
I am trying to stop the vast majority of Profile fields such as Gender, Location, Jobs/Hobbies appearing on the Profile which appears when any member click on "Profile" on the navigation menu.
On the admin panel>users groups>profiles all the fields are shown as not for display yet some still display whilst other don't.
By the way, what does the "highlight fields" drop down menu with default of 'No choice' mean?

Solved Re: Search and search widget

Post by Dollymixture on February 28th 2017, 11:34 pm

After doing some digging I found an old thread on here, solved by Ange Tuteur, about knocking fields out of the Profile in the third panel (Twitter, Facebook etc). As a CSS newbie it was rather mind blowing but I managed to tweak it a little to hide the title of the contact panel and knock out all of the second panel except the first field. I thought
I'd post it in case anyone else could make use of it.

Code:
/* Hides "Contact" heading */
#ucp h1:nth-of-type(3) {display:none}

/* knocks out Contact panel on Information tab */
div.panel:nth-child(6)>div:nth-child(1)>fieldset:nth-child(2)
> dl:nth-child(n+1):nth-child(-n+9) {display:none}

/* displays first field only of Personalized Profile on Information tab */
div.panel:nth-child(4) > div:nth-child(1) > fieldset:nth-child(2)
> dl:nth-child(n+2):nth-child(-n+7) { display:none}
