Solved Nav links you have no new messages broken

Post by Fildragon on March 13th 2017, 3:13 pm

I am trying to add images for Nav links - You have no new messages. (Modifying headears and navigation) When I try to save my changes I get the notification: "You must provide a menu name". Menu name is not editable, as a result I cannot make the changes. Is this a bug or is there another way I can set the two images?

Thankyou

Change them here: AP > Display > Colors & Pictures > Pics Management (advanced mode).

Solved Re: Nav links you have no new messages broken

I'm sure this problem isn't about that. @Fildragon wants to add two images before a link (messages) in the navbar (a.mainmenu).
Oh, it's hard to do. You should go to ACP (Administration Control Panel) > Display > Pictures and Colors > CSS stylesheet and paste this code:
Code:
a.mainmenu[href="/privmsg?folder=inbox"] {
background: url(DIRECT_LINK_TO_YOUR_IMAGE_HERE) no-repeat;
background-position: right;
}
But the text will cover the icon (background). If it had a normal selector, you would be able to set ":before" or ":after" pseudoclasses. But because it hasn't height and width of the boxes depend on how much text is written, you can't do this.
Also if name of this link was changeable, you could add some spaces before or after it ( ) but for now it isn't possible. I think it would be possible with JavaScript, but I don't know JS.

Ahhh... of course, you can merge two images.

Yes I have added both pictures to the pictures management too and have added the necessary CSS and javascript to get my image in the required place. But the menu in Nav links does not work. It should work the same as that of logout: it shows one picture when the person is logged in and another when logged out. The message icon used to display the first picture if there was no private message and a second picture if there was a private message. It does not do this. So I don't know if it is accepting my images or how I can get this function back. It works fine in the Nav links logout option, so I am presuming this is a bug?

Thankyou for the responses

You can not change them in the headers and navigation section. The reason why is that parts of it is grayed out. Did you not notice the grayed out areas? When you click save and get the error message, it means that the changes were not saved. You can only change the images for no and new PM's here: AP > Display > Colors & Pictures > Advanced Mode > First Tab.

yes, the grayed parts cannot be changed. I am not trying to change the grayed parts, I am trying to add the primary and secondary images but the interface is ASKING to confirm changes of a grayed part? Try it on your forum: see if you can add the two pictures and see what it says

I know that is why you have to change the images where I posted in my last reply. This has been this way since Forumotion has started.
