Solved Exclude usergroups from legend

Post by JumpingScript on October 17th 2017, 8:55 pm

Greetings, reader!

Well, I've come to the following difficulty..

I want to assign members of my forum a group. Their names should be colored in the (who guessed) the group's color, but the group itself should not show up in the legend.
I've already tried setting the group as hidden, which did not solved the problem (the group does not show up in the legend anymore, which is good, but the member's names do not get coloured, which is bad).

Any help is greatly appreciated!

~JumpingScript

That is correct. Hide option only removes them from the legend, but the color will not work.

Which group do you not want to be in the legend?

Well, at the moment, it's only the group "Dedicated". There will be more in the future, though.

Try this:

Set the group to hidden.

Now use this to color the usernames: http://help.forumotion.com/t131443-customize-usernames-according-to-group?highlight=usernames

I've tried this, like explained in the tutorial above.
Comes up it didn't work.

This is the code I pasted in my stylesheet.
Code:

a span[style="color:#00B0F0"] strong {
    background:url(http://illiweb.com/fa/empty.gif) no-repeat;
}

And this is the group administration panel for this group.

Try adding this to your CSS Stylesheet (ACP > Display > Colors > CSS):

Code:
#i_whosonline + p > em { font-size: 0; }
#i_whosonline + p > em:empty { display: none; }

#i_whosonline + p > em:before { font-size: 11px; content: 'Legend :'; }
#i_whosonline + p > em > b { font-size: 11px; }

#i_whosonline + p > em > b:before, #i_whosonline + p > em > b:after { font-weight: normal; }
#i_whosonline + p > em > b:before { content: ' [ '; }
#i_whosonline + p > em > b:after { content: ' ] '; }

This alone won't hide whatever group you want. You have to change the next line of CSS depending on where the group you want to hide lands in the legend on the index.

For example, if the group you want to hide is listed 2nd in the legend, then add this to your CSS:

Code:
#i_whosonline + p > em > b:nth-child(2) { display: none; }

Code:
:nth-child(2)
being the key part. If the group is 3rd, then use this CSS:

Code:
#i_whosonline + p > em > b:nth-child(3) { display: none; }

And so on. Hope that makes sense @JumpingScript.

Makes sense of course this far! One Question, quite obvious. I assume I shall add this instead of the block of code mentioned in the tutorial above, shouldn't I?

Still to no solution. I've set the group to closed, and added the following to the stylesheet of the forum:
Code:
#i_whosonline + p > em { font-size: 0; }
#i_whosonline + p > em:empty { display: none; }

#i_whosonline + p > em:before { font-size: 11px; content: 'Legend :'; }
#i_whosonline + p > em > b { font-size: 11px; }

#i_whosonline + p > em > b:before, #i_whosonline + p > em > b:after { font-weight: normal; }
#i_whosonline + p > em > b:before { content: ' [ '; }
#i_whosonline + p > em > b:after { content: ' ] '; }
#i_whosonline + p > em > b:nth-child(3) { display: none; }

Is that group number 3 in the list in the AP?

Or is it 2?

2 hide group

Yes, it's number 3, according to the group's administration overview. (Refering to "Group Order")

Still nothing, after I added the code to the very beginning of the stylesheet.
(Maybe there's something wrong with how I treat the stylesheet? Is there a way to specifically enable the costum stylesheet?)

Solved Re: Exclude usergroups from legend

Actually, this is very simple. All you have to do is remove the legend from the template index_body.And then make sure your groups are visible in the admin panel.

I have it the same way on my site. Doesn't display the group legend but retains the group colors.

Well, I don't want to hide the complete legend. I aim to hide specific groups from it, for example aforementioned "Dedicated".

So you only want to hide certain ones but not all? And those that you hide you will want to retain their colors for the users in the group. Right?

I think the issue with that is if you use CSS to hide the group, the brackets themselves would still be showing like this

[ ] [Dedicated].

If you had the option, would you want to get rid of the brackets altogether?

EDIT: Nevermind, I see the brackets are added by other CSS you have provided. Please remove any coding you have done so far. Thanks.

Sure. The brackets don't matter at all. As long as "Dedicated" gets hidden from the legend, but its members keep their names colored.

Solved Re: Exclude usergroups from legend

Okay, here's how it works. Add this to your CSS.
Code:
a[href="/g3-dedicated"] {
    display: none;
}

#main-content > p > em > b > a:before,
#main-content > p > em > b > a:after {
    content: " ";
}

Remove these.
Code:
#i_whosonline + p > em > b:before { content: ' [ '; }
#i_whosonline + p > em > b:after { content: ' ] '; }

You simply copy and paste that selector a[href="g3-dedicated"] and change the link in between the quotes to the user group. For example, if you want the moderator's group to vanish too, this would be the code. Notice I put a comma after the first selector.
Code:
a[href="/g3-dedicated"],
a[href="/g2-moderators"] {
    display: none;
}
