Solved My forum is not mobile-friendly

Post by jkh on October 20th 2017, 1:46 pm

Apparently my forum is not mobile-friendly.
I haven't got a smartphone so I have no way of seeing what it looks like other than on my desktop.
Is there a way I can make my forum mobile-friendly?

Is it anything to do with this in the ACP?

It says to fix two issues which seems to be something to do with this page in particular:
https://jillhavern.forumotion.net/t8451p25-the-last-photo-the-key-questions

So I've done this as it was set on 600 pixels:

The images are now very small, so I wonder if they would still be mobile-friendly if I set it to 400 pixels?

But I don't know how to fix this:

What does it mean clickable elements too close together? Confused

Any help gratefully received! :rose:

Hello,

Is this your forum: https://jillhavern.forumotion.net/ ? If so then the reason your forum is probably coming up as unmobile friendly is because it seems you have a script to auto re direct to desktop version of the site rather then mobile version.

The desktop version loads fine for me on my phone, however, not having your mobile version appear is probably is what is making the not mobile friendly thing. This is because google considers any site without a mobile version 'not mobile friendly'.

Hello brandon_g

Yes, that's my forum. Is there any way to correct that auto-redirect-script please?

Or should I not mess with it?

Hi,

I made a mistake, so I have visited your forum before to assist you with other issues and by habit I loaded the classic version of the site, as such my main browser automatically sent me to the classic version. I just visited your site on a different browser and the mobile version DOES come up so there is no auto re directing script, sorry about this.

Now as for why it is coming up un mobile friendly I have no idea, both mobile versions are designed to work well with all mobile devices and to meet the criteria by search engines like google on what a mobile version must have.

You should also bare in mind that process you did of testing your site mobe friendliness is more then likely an automated process done by a computer somewhere, as such computers love to nitpick and stuff. I have viewed your site from mobile version and it looks fine to me.

That's good then, thank you.

While you're here with your mobile, can you please tell me if any of the text on the home page wraps itself underneath the images like this?

From my phone, on classic version it is not no. Every device could load the page differently on classic version though. This happens cause the device is trying to ensure everything shows and in doing so sometimes it can load things differently. Screen size can be a factor, but my phone has a 4.5 inch screen which is a smaller phone then by average standards.

It loads regular for me though, no wrapping around the image.

Edit: The above is true if I hold my phone horiziontally as I always do, but if I flip my phone vertically it does do it. Again this would be the device trying to compensate for its smaller screen and trying to make sure everything fits, there is nothing your going to be able to do to fix this.

Hi Skouliki, it was Google that came up with that particular thread url as being the problem. That seems to be the only thread that was a problem out of thousands on the forum, so not too bad all things considered!

But many thanks for testing it with the forum url.

Your forum is too long for me to get a screenshot of the entire homepage. The screenshots below taken from classic version should be enough to give you an idea though.

This is what it looks like all the down horizonitally:

Here is what it looks like vertically:
