To be able to edit the ads.txt file of our forums

Post by jucarese on November 9th 2017, 12:21 pm

The ads.txt file is not something exclusive to Adsense, but rather a project called Authorized Digital Sellers (Authorized Digital Sellers), of the IAB Tech Lab organization that researches and develops technical standards for the digital media industry and advertising. .

What is the purpose of this mechanism?

Authorized Digital Sellers or ads.txt is an IAB initiative that helps ensure that the only vendors (such as AdSense) in your digital ad inventory are those that you have authorized. By creating your own ads.txt files, you have more control over who can sell ads on your website and can prevent inappropriate inventory from showing to advertisers.

You do not have to use ads.txt, but we recommend that you do so. An ads.txt file can help shoppers identify counterfeit inventory and get advertisers, instead of targeting that inventory, to invest in advertising on their website.

We suggest:

That Forumotion implements the use of this file (ads.txt) at the root of our forums, and since forum administrators can not access the files of the servers (a question that is logical and is perfectly understood), that is provided a place where we can introduce the Advertising Companies with which we work and the Editor ID that we have assigned with that company.

Then with these data the technicians of Forumotion will be responsible for adjusting it as required by the standard, which as explained in Google Adsense, goes as follows ...

Create a text file (.txt.)
Include the following line:
google.com, pub-0000000000000000, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Important: Be sure to replace pub-0000000000000000 with your own publisher ID.

Indeed...
Don't forget to mention that, without this, anyone that use custom ads in they pages will NOT be able to show those ads...

For instance, Adsense will show a white space instead, because the user ID is not in the "ads.txt".
Basicaly, this is currently blocking the ads from any external source/publisher, allowing only the Forumotion ones...
