Don't know why I can't add the screenshot, but I'd love some advice on how to handle this.

Your image did not work because you forgot a ']' in the first tag. I have fixed this for you. The image you linked to however is blank. bwi

As for the issue at hand, is the forum your forum? If so, why not just ban them again and remove the posts?

If it is not your forum, then you can either make a report to a staff member of the site or else to our litigation team if the staff on the forum won't deal with it.

I'm the forum owner, but he is not a current member, he's an ex-member, and he sends this via the report abuse link.

Hello Thank you for getting in touch  with us about this.

Sadly there is not a lot we can do to help you on this.

If you know where this member is from you could report it to the police but the problem is most of the time this is just some one upset with you about some thing like banning or deleting of the account's
As you are the founder it is down to you to deal with your members and Ex members as you see fit.

We have no real power over your members.

My advice is to ban the IP address and the Email address and the account.

Here's the problem, though -- we have no way to see the IP or email address of the person sending these threatening messages. At least you might be able to help me (and other forum owners) out with that.

The "report abuse" function is being abused, and it would be good to see where these reports are coming from. Surely somebody knows how to make that happen.

We can not help with that.  If you know that it is the ex-member, you should have all the information from the account on the forum.  Also you need to understand that Forumotion does not see the report an abuse reports.  They only go to the administrators of the forum.

I would just ignore this person.  He/she will get tired when he/she does not get a reaction from you or other staff members.  If he/she does create a new account, just ban it.

Do not react to anything from this former member on the forum or anywhere else.

Also do not post a topic on the forum where he/she can see it.  He/she wants this type of reaction.

hello,

as mentioned above, these reports are simply declarative and do not mean that your forum is in danger or risk a warning of something like that.

it's just a tool to warn the admin of a situation so he can intervene if he want. it's the principle of vigilant community.

if a user uses it abusively, you just have to ignore his statements and classify them as treated and it stops weary because it is internal to your forum and knowing his IP will change nothing Wink
