Solved hackers in the group

Post by ♥ Lovin ♥ April 14th 2018, 2:17 pm

In the past three days we had three hackers. bwi We are a closed forum---I pay for ad free and and so annoyed now. I banned the ip and names--no good. I am wondering if this is something that can be looked into or do I need to move my group to another site?? We are passed upset now-but they keep getting in

What exactly do you mean by hackers?  If you mean they hacked staff or members' accounts then you need to make sure that your account information is strong enough that hackers can not figure out the information.

I am saying they are keep getting in the group as members though they were not admitted by a manager. In order to be admitted into your group you must know someone-and say who you know and then we will allow you in. But they are getting in without permission as though it is a free open group-which it isn't we are locked. I just banned another Russian IP address today and this is so annoying now. We are debating if we should stay or go

Understood and apologize--just trying to get across the fact we are having a huge problem with this--they get in and yet we are a locked forum--how is this possible??

Are they using the same ip address everytime? Or is it changing? If it is changing, they are probably using a proxy to block or change their actual ip addresses hence why they continue to access the site despite the ip ban. E-mail address bans are also easy get around by simply creating a new email address. Unfortunatelly with the internet these days it is impossible to 100% ban someone, there are so many ways around bans.

If they are using a proxy, there is not much you can do except continue to ban their accounts. They will likely get tired of creating new email addresses and stuff and give up eventually.

The only other thing you can do is set the forum activation to admin only and simply not activate any new accounts by them. That is the only other thing you can do to combat this.

Brandon that is the issue--we are not letting them in and we are a private group, they have to ask permission to get in. Sometimes they use the same ip or I have different ones too I am banning. So whoever it is is getting past the locked forum.

As long as you don't activate the accounts, they can't access it so. I would just keep banning ips and not activating their accounts.

Do you have the Topic'It app activated? If you do, did you set it where the forum's permissions are followed? If you do not, they can create an account without admin approval.
