Export Your Whole Forum!

Post by LS x Pure Envy on June 9th 2008, 3:46 am

First topic message reminder :

I know you can Export the Them and Pictures of your forum, but we should have an option to export the whole forum. Like if:

You screwed up the database somehow and nothing at all works.
Someone spammed the forum.
Someone hacked the forum.

It exports the members also so it is just like a system restore, even though we have that. This can be used for other purposes, also.

Forumotion is NOT a service which offers you the database or the code for the forums. So it's impossible to give it, anyway it wouldn't fit with another board, because the structure is different Wink

Indeed. 2 years later: hey i can't change the appearance of my forum like i want to. Hey i don't have FTP access. Hey lets export my forum to my own host where i have phpBB freedom. Hey it seems forum motion does not want me to do this.....http://help.forumotion.com/juridical-tutorials-f40/forumotion-s-forum-databases-t6668.htm#35481

I think this is happening:

Lots of people want this.
Forummotion management is away i their ivory tower or just don't care and too busy with other things to be hassled.
Administrators of this forum have accepted that given up on us (i'm guessing they have tried to change this, as you can see MrMario thought this was a good idea as well).

I voted yes , but for this option to be pleasing to all ( for members and Foumotion ) , I think it must be based on credits Razz because if you can export the database you can restore it in another host ... Rolling Eyes

The database belongs to Forumotion so there is no option to get it.

You can only export theme of your forum, and use founder tools in case you need a backup.

You cannot export/move data. Forummotion has a very weird policy about this creating a negative name for themselves. There was a poll about an export feature if it should be added and there were 100% votes for yes but they just ignore it. They think they can keep you from leaving by owning your data.

We just made a forum on our own phpBB hosting provider and were done with forummotion, it wasn't that bad. You can just copy/paste the most important stickies and topics and let everyone re-register themselves.

Once this discussion goes to far, they will lock this topic, mark my words. They know it's an unfair policy so they don't want people talking about it.

I dont think this will be done...

Cause, as you know, Forumotion NEVER gives their databases, so you cant export anything of your forum (related to users, posts and that stuff)

Terms Of Use will never change.

Everything can be changed. You just have to adopt to what people want or lose customers otherwise.

No you can forget it, for non-understandable reasons they don't even reason about that option of paying for it. Just setup your own forum on your own host, it's easy and you have more freedom to change what you want.
