Page URL's to what they were before

Post by xaphania on January 16th 2007, 7:15 pm

Hi Smile

I would like to suggest that the page URL's go back to the way they were before. I find that the new type of URL's stretch the page when inserted directly, and this not only looks unsightly, but can cause problems for people with smaller screen resolutions.

I know that you can make the link words by using the following code:

Code:
[url=URL HERE]text[/url]

However, many people don't know this code, or don't have the patience to add it. Sometimes it's just easier to copy and paste the URL directly, and when member's put in the URL's it makes the mods job more difficult if they have to go in and edit the post.

I'm not sure what the technicians reasons behind making the URL's longer were, but I want to say that I am not a fan and suggest we go back to the way it was before.

this form of URL (which are rewrited) allows to improve the referencement of your forums. I know the url is longer but I think it's good like this Smile

I agree wih Xaphania.
I don't care if it helps, it's too long this way.

To topple it of, I don't want people to get "deep" into my forum through simple referencing...

I disagree, I find it annoying Laughing

Do you think there'll be any way to choose which way we have it? Stretching pages is unsightly and makes more work for mods and admins who have to go in and edit posts.

I think a way to choose which way to have it, or allow both would be good!

I have to agree with Isabel_Kitty, it would be good to choose which we prefer. Personally, I like the old system, but some people might like the new one so it would be good to have an option in the Configuration where we can choose.

I think that a choice in which link format to have is a good idea. Personally, I agree with Xaphy that the length is plain annoying, though I can see why it was changed. I think to have the option of which one to use on your site is possibly a better suggestiong to suit all
