Would you like to be able to attach or upload files with extensions like *.doc or *.pdf?
Poll: Upload or Attach files
As per my post below...
This is based on my desire to have students submit work in *.doc, *.pdf formats as well as other microsoft formats like excel spreadsheets etc.

Re: Poll: Upload or Attach files
I really hope it is given some consideration. As an educational tool the forum structure is proving to be a big hit with the students and I am looking at expanding it already. I have students who are 100% engaged and thinking about things more deeply and critically and are now using the site to develop their own interests This is a direction I hope to develop further. The kids are showing an interest in submitting work for my opinion, to show other students and for assessment. So as a learning tool being able to upload basic mcirosoft file types and maybe *.pdf files would give it so much more scope. I realise that there are other external file hosting options available but, from a teaching point of view, the less steps involved in getting something done the greater the chance of success. If it's all in the one place kids are going to be more likely to use it (and despite what the media would have us believe there are soooooo many kids whose computer skills are seriously lacking and they would give up before trying to work out how to host something somewhere else and then link it up). At the moment I have a section on the forum for them to submit their work to my department of education email account where they can add attachments and have them sent to me by email but this means no one else can see it unless I publish it and so removes the chance of peer review, which is a valuable learning tool. I would like to be able to tell the kids that if they want to they can post something for review or just to show the other students or they can PM me with the link if they would rather not share it.

Re: Poll: Upload or Attach files
I really don't understand why this idea has been rejected before. I mean, just slap a warning label on the attachment that says "Opening .exe files or any files may be harmful for your computer."
This would really come in handy in case a user couldn't find a certain .mp3 file that another person has.

to tell you the truth it isen't that hard to convert simple MS Word Document into a deadly HD destroying virus my friend has done it before in school......
if some advance programmers could make and image into a virus then document is even easier then the image....

You got that right. And it's no big feat being able to do that.

One of my members on my forum has that problem, however it was solved with a few manual methods, like using hijackthis, combofix etc...

Re: Poll: Upload or Attach files
bring back the old subject here again, just to make it clear and bump.
i think forumotion can have it. if we think gallery permissions like any member can upload picture to gallery of the forum, same thing can be done with permissions for attachment i think.
of course this will need a part of host area, and paid feature seems logical.
many free phpbb forums allows this feature without paying but with more security and backups tech team can install this feature i think.
It's very usefull for members to share their files on their favorite forum without going to any third party hosting provider and phpbb supports this feature as we know.

Re: Poll: Upload or Attach files
It would be awsome to see a upload script so people can upload videos, or swf files etc just so they dont have to go all over the net to host swfs for thier forum and make a stupid code for it to work proper with the forum , and instead have a upload script where when you do upload a swf it gives you a perfect working html code that will work with the forumotion website perfect with instructions
Re: Poll: Upload or Attach files
I use Excel for organizational to-do list purposes, and I do need to have some uploaded to my forum; so voted Yes.
Re: Poll: Upload or Attach files
Yes from me.
If they can have servimg to upload images,
they could have the same method to upload files.

I voted no.
I dont think ForuMotion should bug themselves with this feature. If you want to upload files, use many of "free unlimited upload" services. I use FTP for almost everything anyway.

Re: Poll: Upload or Attach files
So, is it possible to upload files yet? Is there some module that does this?

I'd just like to say that I think it should be possible to upload .pdf files, too.

This feature is not possible yet and I do not think this idea is going to happen. If you have a look through google you will find an attachment file website somewhere.

Re: Poll: Upload or Attach files
it's very very early to speak next updates, but may be after 1.5-2 months when currant bugs are all gone away, techs should think about this option i think.
FM came such a long way to right here, with many useful updates both for admins and members...
If we think the direction of updates, i think it should go on the same route with final updates, adding some other phpbb3 standards like custom bbcode and attachment will make forumotion king of the forums...
