Re: Creative Freedom

Post by eferhilda on August 14th 2009, 11:42 am

So after a poll and getting the general opinion of our members it seems we will be having ourselves writing competition!! Since this is our first Writing Competition as a community I thought that it was only fitting for the theme to be the reason why we are here,'Creative Freedom'. This being said I know that this topic is fairly broad but myself and the other judges feel that even though it is broad it would be a good challenge for our talented writers to really show their stuff.

The idea of the competition is to write a story which best conveys what Creative Freedom means. To help us in the judging we have come up with a set of simple rules and guidelines that must be followed and what will be the basis for judgment.

Rules and Judging Criteria:

Word Limit: A minimum of 750 words is required for entry but a entry must also not exceed 2,500 words.

Spelling/Grammar: Simple enough that you will be judged on the spelling and grammar of your story.

Originality: How original and creative your idea is but also how well it sticks to the main theme.

So those are the rules for you to use when writing. PM entries to the Administrators and Amras who will be the judges of this competition. It begins tonight and ends on September the 2nd. After that no more entries will be accepted and the winner will be announced a week from the end date on September the 9th. Though this date depends on the number of entries we receive to which the date will then become September the 16th, no longer then this date. We will announce the official date once we have all of the entries.

Well the only thing left to do now is to get out there and create.....go on....get writing or typing.....you are wasting time reading this now.
Wink

Halloween Writing Competition

Post by eferhilda on October 8th 2009, 5:00 pm

Its that time of year and month Ghouls and Ghosts for our monthly writing competition and in the spirit the month we are having a horror themed competition this month. As of the release of the first Magical Quills issue the competition has begun and all entries must be in by the 24th of Oct with the winner to be announced on the 31st. The judges are the same as last time, Forgotten Wolf, Amras, Malicar and myself (Eferhilda). Entries are to be pmed/emailed to any of these individuals with the subject of the message to be Creative Freedom October Writing Competition.

Rules and Judging Criteria:

Word Limit: A minimum of 2,500 words is required for entry but a entry must also not exceed 5,000 words.

Spelling/Grammar: Simple enough that you will be judged on the spelling and grammar of your story.

Originality: How original and creative your idea is but also how well it sticks to the main theme.

Theme:This is a themed contest in the spirit of Halloween. However, Creative Freedom is about being creative and breaking free from the norm to create something that is original and riveting. With that being said though this is a Halloween themed competition participants are restricted from using any of the fallowing. Vampires, Werewolves, Demons, Ghosts, the Occult and anything else of the supernatural nature.

I know that some of you are groaning at this idea but there is still plenty left to right about without falling back on the played out and overused themes. Some examples are, the Saw movies, Cabin Fever, Scream, I know what you did last summer, Wrong Turn, The Hills have eyes, Hostel, etc. Basically things that could actually happen in real life, without the additives of demonic possession, vampires, satanic rituals and so on and so forth. So there is a lot out there for you to write and create, just have to use that imagination and put pen to paper or more aptly fingers to keyboard.

Prizes:

There will be prizes for this competition to include the following:

A custom badge that will go under the username of the winner, similar to the current badges that the staff have, only the badge will say something to the effect of 'Writing Comp Winner 10/09'. This way all that see you will know that you won the competition for this the month of October in the year of 2009.

The second prize will be to have your name and work submitted to the online writing magazine Magical Quills as Creative Freedom's first among many featured authors for an interview and entry into a web wide rating.

The third prize as is our custom here is a trophy with the winners name on it, so that those in the real world can know of your accomplishments in the online world.

I look forward to a great turn out for this competition this time around and hope to read some truly awesome work from our talented and creative members.

Our competition was a success congratulations to Donta was pulling out the win with his awesome and original Horror story.

At creative Freedom, we understand that the holidays are a busy
time of year, with families, vacations, shopping, eating, and reflection,
So in a show of respect of the holiday season the months of
November and December will be combined into one “MEGA
HOLIDAY CONTEST!” What makes it MEGA you ask? Well besides
not being due until the Midnight of December 22nd(with the winner
being announced on the 25th )its what is and isn't allowed, so here
are the rules:

1) It must be a form of creative self expression that embodies the holiday spirit.
2) It must be made by you, and therefore original.
3) Only one entry per person, so make sure what you
want to count for your entry, is what you send in!

THAT'S IT! So you can take a picture, record a song, write a story,
write a poem, make a piece of art, stage an elaborate scene for some
dramatic video production, WHATEVER you want! These entries will
be judged (Eferhilda, Malicar, Forgotten Wolf and Amras) “Americas Got Talent” Style, looking for the entry that
invokes the strongest sense of holiday spirit within the judges, and
shows the creativity to do just that. So with no further gilding the lily,
and with no more adieu, Best of luck to all!
