Change the length of forum offline and displayed message

Post by lockelymarkets on February 15th 2007, 11:44 am

When users put their forum under construction mode, the only option is to have it for 1 day with a fixed message.

Wouldn't it be good to be able to have the forum closed as long as you like and be able to change the message that is displayed by doing so?

What do you think?

Great idea, in fact I've been meaning to suggest a "Board Offline" feature for some time.

I know it's possible on invisionfree, so something similar to that would be great.

I think that's a great idea, because they may be times when an administrator needs to close the forum for redesigning and forum changes.
It would be nice to be able to display a personal message to the members explaining why the forum is closed at any particular given time.

im not agree with that because :

-since u open a forum or site, is ur responsibility to offer how much is possible ur creation to user/client;

-u must to secure him at least 99% functionality;

-u have to make a redesign, make it online step-by-step;

-only reason for what u can keep close ur forum-site is a full data/design upgrade (not update) and when u change the host

-to keep it close i think u will offence the user-client and obstruct his activity
### if u cant keep it 99% up then whay u created ?

^^ Yes but sometimes it is nessessary to close the forum for periods of time that are more than 24hours.
In cases as those it would be good to change the message so if we have a temporary forum open while the main one is closed, the message on the main one can suggest the temporary one.

If you know what I mean.

Yes, and if this feature was implemented, you wouldn't have to use it. This would be good for some people, and so I don't understand with a feature that would be optional why people vote no...
