Customizable "Banned" Message

Post by ChessMaster 8k on October 22nd 2008, 1:35 am

Hello all, I've returned to Forumotion!

I realize that I've made this suggestion in the past, but in lieu of bumping it, I've decided to create a new thread regarding my suggestion to see what members think now.

The question is, would you like the ability to customize the message that appears only to banned members? Currently all it says is "You've been banned from this forum", and in my opinion that's not good enough. What if the member isn't permanently banned but only suspended for a month?

What do you all think?

Its already possible. When you ban a member from their profile, you are two given options. It says:

Are you sure to want to ban this member ?

(Optional) For a duration of Days:
(Optional) For this following reason:
For a temporary ban enter the nuber of days the member is banned for. Then add the reason underneath, and confirm the ban.

I think you misunderstood me. When a member is suspended or banned and they attempt to log in, a message appears on the forum saying, "You've been banned from this forum." I'm wanting to customize that message somehow. I want it to say something like, "Your account has been disabled. Please contact the forum Administrator."

if someone was banned or suspended, why would you want them to contact you?

the way it is now is just fine: fill in the blank and put your message there. also how would they contact the admin if their banned or suspended and cant get on, unless it was through email.

which everything that is set now is just fine:

You were banned from this forum for 5 days for ________ contact the administrator at _____@____.com

doesnt seem to hard. i vote no

I vote yes.

It is arrogant and simpleminded to categorically state that the current language is "just fine" for another administrator simply because it is fine for you.

The determination to ban in the context of the forum, the relationships within that forum and what the proper language another administrator may want to make to a banned member is their business alone.

From a practical perspective it seems to me the main consideration is value added to the forum versus resources needed to implement the change. It seems a function relatively, easily implemented and adds some flexibility some administrators might find valuable. It is astounding to me that someone, having no knowledge thinks it proper to state anothers needs.

I vote yes....

It is logical that banned members do not receive forum PM's and e-mails. I can find no documentation on this. Can someone confirm it is true?

Thanks

Yes, I understand that but it sorta doesn't give a HTML code so you can make the message colorful lol.
