User Controlled Time out

Post by endless013 on October 24th 2008, 8:47 pm

I think this could be a useful addition, its a feature in the "login" screan that allows members to say how long in minutes they wish to stay logged in without mouse clicks before they time out. A lot of people can't make long posts or get to involved with what they are trying to say in just 5 -10 or even 15 minutes if they can't type well or type slow so they might want a longer time out count compaired to someone that can type and post faster or better.

heres what I'm talking about

My users have been asking about something similar to this for a long time, and I really really think it's a good idea.

If it's not impossibly hard, can we PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have this function?!?!

It eliminates the problem of time outs, and then not knowing what threads have and haven't been read! I have a really active forum, and this is a problem.

Excellent idea, mr endless.
Very Happy

I think this could be some thing good to have as a lot of members say in here and in my forum how comes they get loged off line when looking at posts or in the chat box and so on

I think this should be added in and have the admins have the right to yous it or not on there forum.

I can see this being helpful in alot of forums.
Some people post such long involved posts that having a greater ammount of time before you time out would only make the users that much happier.

I vote "YES" - Please, no more bumps eh?

*Bump* = One Word.
"One Word" = SPAM!

Please cut it out.. you have my vote. I think it's a great idea.. I can definatly use this on my Forum.

~DS~

DeamonSpike, have u ever thought of why he is bumping?
Maybe its cause he wants attention to his thread, and bumping (to my knowledge) if done by thread started isnt spam.

This idea would be great for me even when I spend to much time on these forums and will tell me that I need to get off the internet and do something else. Vote YES!

Lol - Look at the bump times Darren, you and I both know the rules of Forumotion.

No double/triple posting within 24 hours, spamming with *Bump* is actually spaming, as it is stated within your OWN started topic in general discussions.
(By an Admin/Mod no less)

Ok, This thread was on page 3 and could use a bump so I gave it a bump. It makes more sence to bump a topic that actually needs it over something like the cash mod which already has over 200 votes for it...

now for your point, lets look at those bumps and the "24hour rule"... Nov27(yesterday) @ 5:41 pm, Oct30 @ 9:12 am, Oct28 @ 8:32 am, have one post at Oct 26 @ 10:46 am and I started the thread on Oct 24 @ 1:47 pm... yep, looks like over 24 hours to me, I'm following the rules and Not spamming, if I had actually been spamming a staff member would have said something as you had pointed out... Please don't MOD me.

I AM! Please stop modding people as this is the moderators job, not yours.

@Demonspike wrote:How comes everyone thinks that someone is trying to MOD them, when they ask them politely to stop doing something?

Because you ARE! It doesn't matter if someone does it rudely or politely, it is still moderating no matter how you look at it. Reminding people of the rules and telling a person to stop doing something due to it breaking the rules IS moderating and that is not your place to do so. So I politely ask you to stop.

Thanks!

Whatever, do what you want, say what you want, I am done with this thread!

I wasn't trying to mod, and you can believe that I was if you want.. really doesn't matter now..

I deleted all my posts...

Oh and Skittles... you could have just P.M'ed me... I guess you'd rather humiliate me instead...

Screw this, being attacked by Members and Staff members is too much to handle right now.

I'm off!

Demonspike, I am sorry you feel this way, but I do not treat any member any differently than another. I moderate all for the same reasons as the rest, if needed, no matter who they are. And it is all done in the forum, the same way it has always been done. Sorry no special treatment.

Moderating is not intended to be a humiliation, but rather reminders or warnings if it comes to that, depending upon the situation. If one takes it as a humiliation, then it is their own issues that caused them to draw that conclusion.
