Automatic activation

Post by skorpy on March 14th 2007, 10:45 pm

First topic message reminder :

It would be nice to have Automatic activation on our forums..We only have either Admin or user to activate the accounts.

Would be easier for guests too register and the activation done once registration is completed.Obviously still have Admin and user activation as an option.

I dont know if this has already been mentioned.

I am for that one.

I am using it on my forum, and it didn't get spammed or anything (besides, nobody's forced to use this option), it just makes it easier for members to register Smile

I'll not vote because each choice has it's pros and cons. Good thing would be that they don't forget about activating it, but a bad thing would be the bots going crazy on our forums.

I voted no.

It's not secure enough.
Also, if you need your members to stay and come back, send them an activation message you wrote, to tell them you activated their account. Also, you can send a newsletter, to keep people interested in new things happening around in your forum..

This is a great idea!

so what if we have spambots? we'll just Ip ban them.. and delete their spam..

and also there's billions of forum with auto activation registration

and some of these forums seem to be working fine..

now why can't we have the same?

that's a great idea, because a user can sign in.. as a member and get to post.. and not have to wait for the Webmaster to activate him..

and also.. I know a few a People that rant about this

it's more people than the ones that say it's not a good idea..

because they think.. and obviously dont have busineses on the internet...

and making your own forums is one way of making business

and most important auto account activation would be a faster way...

and im praying to god that changes soon, and not take years

Maybe the rudeness comes with the age..A simple no would be better.

If you read up.it is merely a suggestion..infact it is an option, you dont have too use it.Just for those of us who would like too.

Re: Automatic activation

Post by Finvarra on June 15th 2007, 10:34 pm

Hello Editboard Staff& Team
Please apply this setting but in this matter that administrator can decide wether he will use automatic activation or not you can add 1 more option to these /user/admin that it looks like /auto/user/admin so board administrator can pick wether he will allow auto activation or not..
And simply add image verifying mod that's not directly embeded into the procedure so spambots can't verify it by just looking at source code Smile

And also you have unique registration screens i don't think spambots are used to that kind of reg screens.

Did you runned any tests with em?

Regards,
Finvarra

I like this idea because there have been several cases where I've seen users on my forums never even log in.

It seems as though they make the account, and when it says "Please check your email for a link to activate your account." they say "Well nevermind, I'm too lazy."

So yea I like this idea!

I Agree!

I say no, i hate spam and i know al about phpbb forums and if you put this in your forum, i only can say "GOOD LUCK".
It's for you're own safety for your forum. Why do you think that the most spammers use phpbb forums? It is to easy for them to put advertising or other things on your forum.

If people want to talk, they will register on your forum.
And for the parents, make a emailaddress for you're children.

Are you nuts? Shocked
I know forums there are about 100 spam posts and registrations a day!

This option exist, look in you're ACP. There are 2 options, the webmaster activate him or the member activate himself. The third option is, no activation by email. So everybody can register and talk immediately.
