Automatic activation

Post by skorpy on March 14th 2007, 10:45 pm

First topic message reminder :

It would be nice to have Automatic activation on our forums..We only have either Admin or user to activate the accounts.

Would be easier for guests too register and the activation done once registration is completed.Obviously still have Admin and user activation as an option.

I dont know if this has already been mentioned.

Re: Automatic activation

Post by skorpy on July 14th 2007, 3:50 am

Another good example why Automatic Activation should be available as an option. I have a chatbox that guest's can use and post in,in portal. Someone registered Yesterday and after 40 minutes said in the chatbox.. "Hi I am new. I am still waiting for my activation key".So I manually activated her and even now,she still has not recieved her activation email.

How many more has this happened too in the past when I have had people register and not activate their account thinking that it was because they didn't want to join in the end...only to find it may be because they did not get their activation email.

I agree it would be nice to have that option. Sometimes the activation emails don't work or don't send at all, so I have to activate them manually. Though it's not that big of a deal, I'm not always around to activate any accounts that come though, and if it's over a longer period of time, the member just gives up and never comes on.

Re: Automatic activation

Post by -(Alpha)- on August 12th 2007, 12:42 am

I can see some faults in this, but for the most part, yes for me.

I know that Admin's can activate, but there are times (Of Course) that I'm not on....and they don't activate the account...and of course, you know what happens then.

What I don't get is, if they try to log in, it says You Can't Use it Until activated. (Now I might be wrong here) But I am new to this forum/forumotion and when I finally looked at the inactive Users part, there were like 15 members Inactive...and a lot of them were the same person making more then 1 account.

If there are spambots or whatever, why not just ban them (fun!)

But I don't think there will be that many, so I say yes to this poll.

Yes I like this one.

It's a pain having people to authorise there accounts, especially if they dont know how to do it, or the email doesn't come through until a few hours, maybe even a day or two.

If admins prefure people to active their own account, if they were prone to spammers or manually do it them selves, is up to them.

Re: Automatic activation

Post by zinex on August 31st 2007, 8:47 am

i am not for it, i have had forums or know owners fo forums whom spend half their time banning and banning, whom had 20 odd members a day whom sign up purely for spam. If you want to get a new member to come on to the site, once he or she is activated, why not send them a welcome email? it takes two minutes, and i find for the most it works just fine.

however i agree with caihlem maybe we should have it, as after all i dont have to choose it....

I think the best choice is to make an 3rd option, so people can automatic activate after registration without email or admin. . Make an option of it, so admin can choose he like best. .
.

By the way. , when this poll end? I think many people want to make a 3rd option. . So "please" do it

I am for it... a third option is always beneficial to somebody

Just because you are not going to use it does not mean it's not a good idea.

Re: Automatic activation

I think automatic activation should be allowed as a 3rd person option. If you dont like it, it would be 3rd person which means you would have to pick that. Also if you put an little CODE that you have to type down in order to make the account like alot of online registration things have you do like {IE34G6} will cut down on spam. Other sites also have an "Are you human?" question, i think there are other ways to really cut down on spam rather than not having automatic activation as an option at all. If they are that dedicated that they continue to spam 20 times a day, then maybe its time to do something with there IP or put most restrictions on post, like certain post in a time limit, OR more moderators.

This poll has started from long long ago. . And the winner is "MAKE AN OPTION OF IT' , but why until now the option never appeared?

All of the things from forumotion are made by technicians. So when they will make this option available(if they decide to make it) it will be available for us. But until then there is nothing we can do except wait.

Let us choose by ourself

Post by MyGM on December 27th 2007, 4:37 pm

Hi Admin,

Are there only POLL for this forum to vote, no any new solution from forumotion ?
My suggestion is let forum owner to choose by themself, they also have their responsible to let automatic activation or not.

Voted yes it would be a lot better as some mebers dont always recieve the actiavation code.
Also it would make it a lot quicker so they wont be waiting for the codes to get on.
