Automatic activation

Post by skorpy on March 14th 2007, 10:45 pm

First topic message reminder :

It would be nice to have Automatic activation on our forums..We only have either Admin or user to activate the accounts.

Would be easier for guests too register and the activation done once registration is completed.Obviously still have Admin and user activation as an option.

I dont know if this has already been mentioned.

I totally agree!

I hate having to activate my account when I register on sites.

I agree with School Girl (Caihlem Razz ) here. If admins want to take the risk of letting the users have an auto activation. Don't come crying to forumotion when your forum gets hacked!!!

Re: Automatic activation

Post by TheGymHero on June 5th 2008, 7:15 am

I think it should be included as an option.. for those of you who don't want to use it, that's okay but some people prefer for their users to not have to activate their account.... I've had many people who register on my forums but are just too lazy to open their email and click the activation link.

I just don't see the harm in adding it as an option.. sure there may be less security for those who choose to use it, but that is something that I personally would sacrifice.

This can be done but it should be a third option but there should be no come back on the suport forum if any spammers fill the forums up. i personnaly wont use this option as i like to varify evey member for security reasons but it is each to there own but i do agree with caihlem

That is a good point ce-hub, f it were optional so that I could choose not to have it, then I would have no objection to others having this.

New users could possibly use other people's email addresses randomly, so no.

I get that a lot. And some of my users don't have E-mail adresses... That's a pain in the butt. I would like this option.

(What's the word I'm looking for? The one to describe people who argue just because they think it's fun? The word for the person who has to disagree with everything anyone says?) And I get plenty of spam accounts as it is, if they want to sign up, it's not any extra effort on their part. Haven't you ever heard of www.bugmenot.com and their disposable e-mail adresses? I think that it would more often than not, help the real peple register faster than it would alaow spam to pass more freely in to your site. And keep in mind that if you don't want this feature, you don't HAVE to have it.

I'm afraid that this would bring in more spammers. So I vote no.
I know that some people never got activated, but you can still send them mails and ask them to activate their account. At least I do so regulary and who doesn't answer gets deleted.
I also think that this would bring you lot's of people who post 1-5 posts at one day and then never show up again.

Re: Automatic activation

Post by kjmj14 on August 19th 2008, 12:33 pm

yah,
i was hoping, that our admin will put a 3rd option because you know many people are register here in my forum. but when they are registered they always forgot to activate their account. then when activate them, they didn't return because they thought that the account will never be activated.
So i choose, we must have a 3rd option.
these is for the sake of other account that not getting a lot of members because of they always forgot to activate their account. Sad
Hoping that this suggestion will be given a solution. Very Happy
Thanks! Razz
