This can be really annoying sometimes when images are very large, so can we have one?

To really do it, FO should download image, resize them and upload them to the guy who requested the page... so it's not really realisable.

If you set a resize like that- it will resize the banner of your forum too doesn't it? I tried that and that's what happened.

If the image is widther than the forum width yes ^^

To apply it on post it depends on forum's version, for phpbb2 :

And if you want :

.postbody img:hover { max-width: none; }
To view picture with full size when mouse is hover.
