invite a friend feature
hi guys
i dont know if u agree or not but isnt it nice to have an "invite a friend" feature in the footer? coz im sure some or most of us still have to send email or ym our friends to join in our forum. it would be cool if we just click the "invite a friend" and type their email address and send. just i think...
thanks

Re: invite a friend feature
I would like to see this feature too... had the same idea and searched at this forum and found this topic.
It would be nice to have a "Tell a friend' button what you can place at your portal. And when peepz click it they can put an email in it and the forum would be sending an automatic invitation mail to that person.
That would certainly help to get more people on our forums.

Re: invite a friend feature
http://www.starteasy.com/send2friend/ i use this, its really easy to install. but to have something like this intregrated in the forums would be good.

Re: invite a friend feature
i have already made an invitation form using this great site
http://www.bpath.com/
steps:
1)register
2)activate the "tell a friend" tool
3)customize it
4)embed the form into you site
and its FREEEE...
i think this must go at the tricks and tips
but even this is good i would prefer our invitation system so i vote yes

Re: invite a friend feature
there are a few sites out there who you can do this thru. However I don't trust that they will not spam my members.
Great Idea.
In whole i think that the techies have done a great job with what we got.

Re: invite a friend feature
I have figured a way of doing this using the sites own tell a friend function.
I will figure out how to explain it clearly then post it here. - If thats alright with the mods, I know this is not a support topic.

Re: invite a friend feature
This is how I have done it, its a long way round for a short cut but until the powers to be hopefully add this function this will work.
It's not ideal but effective...
First create a welcome message somewhere in your forum. (I have created it at the top of my home page along with rules etc...)
Once you have done this set the permissions for the topic to the minimal - Guests and Members read only. ( A permission for just Guest would be best but thats another story)
Here is a basic text you can use;
Welcome to {.FORUMNAME}
{.FORUMNAME} is {.FORUMDESC}
{.FORUMNAME} has been in existence for {.FORUMAGE} days and is set to keep on keeping on. We currently have {.FORUMCOUNTUSER} members who have posted {.FORUMCOUNTPOST} messages in {.FORUMCOUNTOPIC} topics.
To partake in the full {.FORUMNAME} experience you will need to register and become a member, if you have not done so already. This is an easy process which you can beging by clicking the REGISTER link at the top of the page. Once you have submitted your registration an automatic email will be sent to the address supplied, You will not be fully registered untill you have followed the link in that email.
Once you are a member you will be able to apply to become a member of one of the Usergroups. These groups have access to restricted portions of the site.
To apply to become a member of a particular Usergroup follow the USERGROUP link at the top of the page. Once you have selected which group you wish to join, the moderator of that group will contact you to verify that you can be a member of that group.
Most of all we are all about having fun and communicating with like minded people.
ADMIN and the {.FORUMNAME} team.
(take the . out of the tags (this was put there to stop the tag from working))
When viewing the new post you will notice an ACTIONS link somewhere at the top of the post. Click on this link then right click on the tell a friend link.
>>>Select Properties - This will bring up a small screen with a URL along the lines of http://nzesf.forumotion.com/tell_friend.forum?f=&search_where=f45&t=320
>>>Copy this link (ctrl+C)
>>> Go to Administration Panel >>> General >>> Nav Links (side bar) >>> Add Customised Menu >>>
Insert the name of the link for the page you wish to use - I used INVITE.
>>> Paste the URL into the Redirection URL (ctrl+V)
>>> Select image for Nav bar - I am using - http://illiweb.com/fa/prosilver_grey/icon_participate.gif - untill I create my own
>>> Select your permissions and hit save.
All done. You will now have a link at the top of your page called INVITE.
Please let me know if this works and how it works for you.
