Censor spam links

Post by Darren1 on September 24th 2009, 11:27 pm

Hello,

I'd like to suggest that we censor the links that the recent spammers have been uselessly spamming us with.

For example when they use the text "(Intel Version or Power PC Version)" [linked of cause] it would show up as censored of some way, either the text changed, or the URL its self censored.

Iv just tried this and have found out that you cannot censor more than 16 characters, so I suggest that we censor a part of the link, and allow the wild card thing ( The * ) to censor and remove links

I think it's 'bout time we kick them back to where they came from Mr. Green

Sincerely,
Darren

No, simply because you can censor some of the URL and add the "*" which makes it anything like it, thus censoring the URL in questions that are similar to the one with the wildcard selector in it.

Add it is for the SF ( Support Forum ) , not for all forums, as their not getting as raped by the stupid IDIOTIC spammers like we are Wink

That's nine votes now since I voted yes,

This might get ride of that spammer.

I've seen that spammer on many different forums before, and he/she killed some of the forums, because the staff don't show up, TT

( The forums were all popular, but now, there are only about 40-100 guests online )

This would be helpful if we had a URL censor option. I would agree but all the url's are differnet so it will be harder to do it.

So we use the wildcard option (*) and censor similar parts of similar links.

They could make some sites as 'safe' sites. Sites that are marked safe(google, yahoo, photobucket, tinypic, ect.) can be posted. Others cannot.

Kinda like the system gaiaonline has for images. They only let certian image hosting sites show images. Others wont be shown unless you click 'show images in post' above that certain post.

Re: Censor spam links

Post by Darren1 on October 6th 2009, 4:44 pm

That's not the point to this suggestion TT

For example they spam with the link (completally made up) (without the space before the ".com" part)

we could censor the "adipshit" and censor it like: *adipshit
it would then censor anything that is, or similar to http:// imadipshit.com

Can we try and stay on topic please TT

That would mean ALL links will be censored.

No. That would mean you will need to go through the billions of sites to check if its safe or not. Why not you compile a list of links that are safe, all of them.

Darren, I'm currently trying something like that on my forum.

Voted Yes, if I haven't already.

A shame the word to be censored can only be around 12 characters.

Not really, only a few major sites would be 'safe'

But i misread the topic and my post really didn't have anything to do with his. Just continue with your suggestion.

Re: Censor spam links

Post by Darren1 on October 9th 2009, 3:47 am

Here is an example of what I mean.
This is the link - Split in SEVERAL places & censored several parts
Link: http ://www .4videosoft.***/guide/mts-converter/**********.gif
And we could censor the "mts-converter" part

Censoring that part of link would leave the link & the text censored, and thus unusable.
I have just tested it and it all works Wink

I voted yes. Looks like a useful function. Now, wouldn`t it be easier to simply extend the number of characters that can be used in "word censoring"? Just a thought.
