Christmas time member ranking

Post by Darren1 on Tue Sep 29, 2009 10:30 pm

Hello,

I'd like to propose that during the month of December that we allow users (non staff) have some sort of customized ranking, which is made from the staff (as usual).

It would have a theme of Christmas and would just be adding an image to the current "member" rank we have, whilst staff keep their current rank as their special

Or the alternative path: there are 2 ranks made, both of Christmas design and the text associated with it says something related to Christmas, such as "Santa clause" or "Santa's Helper" (Perfect for Typlo) or "Santa's reindeer" or anything else related to Christmas, and members get to choose what rank they want, and the admin in charge of this (Were presuming its luky, and he's here at this time) gives the members this rank.
The catch is, the member must have minimum number of posts

This would only be for the duration of Lent (Christmas) and a few days into January 2010.

This could bring in much need "fun" life back into the forum, even though our main target is support, and support alone, it is nice to just have a little something for members from time to time, and Christmas would be a supurb time to have it, as Christmas time is the dedicated time to "Give and receive 'gifts'"

Of cause, if flame wars and such negativity start to appear these rankings would be removed without notification, due to the ignorance and stupidity

So, what do ya think, vote in the poll

I know this is going to get through, but ay, we need to do something fun for Christmas time

Sincerely,
Darren.

Why not? Voted Yes.

Although, this may go 2 ways. Spamming to increase posts, or increase in support answers. Hopefully its the latter.

How many posts (minimum) were you thinking of?

I did say it was up to Luky's discretion to give them the custom rank & they must ask for it in a thread, we could make it a discrete thread

As for a minimum post number I didn't really have anything in mind, maybe something like 50-100.

Okay, then why not have the same thing for Hanukkah and Ramadan. You can't look at on set of people, you must look at the varied countries and religions we have here.

I voted no.

You do realize you voted no because your religious event doesn't have a support forum event, which is technically discriminating. Have you gone to the effort in putting up a poll?

I understand your point, and I know what they are!

I am specifically saying Christmas time due to the immense celebration that the entire world has at the same time!
A standstill for the entire world, for the same few hours!

I'm NOT saying that parts of the world stop for Hanukkah and such believes, but really only such a small minority vs 1 large majority....1/2 the people in the world dont even know more than christmas & easter

If I wanted to be silly like you did, id suggest a special rank for my birthday
(Note the sarcasm)

Well thanks for insulting my country. Mad So you are saying that I can get a rank from my Birthday? If you don't like an idea just vote no and move on. If I or any other staff members hear something out of you that is going to make a big war you will be banned from this forum. Plus its just a Holiday and you can do yours. Darren was just suggesting this since there is a lot of people that celebrate it I don't see why not having this as its just a couple of day and it will be back to normal. Its not like we have this all the time. Something like we did on Halloween last year.

Before I forget, this post does not need a reply. Continue on the topic.

Mate, do your research. At least half the world celebrates Christmas, or an event during this time: http://www.the-north-pole.com/around/ Just to mention a few major countries: Australia Smile , Brazil, Canada, UK, USA, China, France, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Poland, Romania, South America (the whole), Spain and the list goes on.

To note, China, India, USA make just under half the world's population, added to the rest, makes well over half.

To finalize, you have made an incorrect statement, and also, with no backup at all.

I'm not trying to stat a war, i just want equality. Let's have something on the one day(two times a year) of Eid then?

According to the chart below Christians make up 33%. Most other religions will NOT celebrate Christmas as their own holiday, but only as a custom if they live in USA.

OK. From your previous statement, you said "USA isn't half the world. Only a few countries other than USA celebrate Christmas." You meant country-wise, but now you are talking people-wise. As a general statement, Christianity is a majority religion, and the majority of populous countries celebrate Christmas, whether it be the traditional way, or not.

I'm not trying to stat a war, i just want equality.

I'm not either, I think its good discussion.

Why must you debate?

Can you guys please stop arguing over who celebrates what.

Godzone things have changed a vast amount since 2005!

I have a mere 1 request:

If your not voting, or stating why you voted either Yes or NO please, don't say ANYTHING!

EDIT: I must say that My Trashcat aint to happy

I never went off topic, it's still about the main idea. My suggestions is that if you create something for christmas, do it for other holidays too.

I'll proceed with the convo with Darron in PM

I like the Idea Darren, I really do Very Happy But it does raise the issue of like godzone said everyone wanting there own for whatever reasons as well, you know?

It's complicates things in a sense to accept one but deny another, understand? I'll have a talk with Luky about it and see what he thinks as well hun, ok? Wink

But for the record I Vote yes! Razz

Re: Christmas time member ranking

Post by Luky on Sat Oct 10, 2009 1:59 pm

We need to consider a couple of things here:

First off, the fact that this forum has a lot of members, members which come from different cultures and often have different believes. It's not fair to do such things only for certain celebration even though indeed Christmas is probably the most celebrated of them all throughout the globe.

But if we do this for Christmas questions will rise such as "Why not also do this for celebration X as well ?"
Why would one be above the other one.

Adding custom ranks to every member that would want one is also out of the picture because this forum has over 28.000 members and most of them would want such a rank so it would mean I would spent Christmas and the days that follow it on the support forum giving ranks so that after 10 days or so ... I will take them back....

Changing the current "Forumotion member" rank would indeed work but this would still not solve the "treating all members and all celebrations equally" issue.

I also noticed that arguments have already started regarding this even though this is just a suggestion and it hasn't been accepted and if arguments flare up at this stage it can only get worst along the way if we were to go with this. Thus, everything considered, I have decided to refuse this suggestion. I thank all those who participated in this debate.

=> Suggestion refused
