! NICK ! wrote:It can mess up of some of Forumotion's features. Not only that, but I believe if you post something that it should be counted no matter what. Therefor, I am voting no.
It's kind of funny. Nick's post is typical of every "No" vote in this poll. He simply doesn't understand what the poll is proposing. I've reviewed every single post in this thread, and there isn't one "No" vote that offers a comprehensible reason for voting against the original proposal.

In fact, as I pointed out in an earlier post, this never should have been a Yes or No poll in the first place, but forumotion's rules for polls make it impossible to set up a poll any other way.

It's already been explained in multiple posts in this thread, but here it is again by way of summary: The proposal makes turning off post counts optional. Those who don't like the idea simply don't have to use it.

What's more, under the proposed feature, post counts would be turned on (enabled) by default. Those who want to disable them for any given forum would have to change the default settings for that forum. Those who want post counts to show wouldn't need to do anything. Therefore, a "No" vote is irrelevant. No one will be forced to use the feature.

The original post for this feature suggestion was 2007, July 16. That's well over four years as of today's date. The feature is overwhelmingly supported by forumotion users. The poll is still open, so I assume that the forumotion team has not yet made a decision. Since the feature is already built into the pHpBB software, the question isn't a matter of whether or not it's possible.

Forumotion team: I'm sure you have your reasons for delaying it, but as far as I can tell, no one knows what they are. Would it be too much to ask for a simple explanation? I'm not challenging you, I'm ASKING you: Why don't you implement this feature?

Re: No post count/Disabling post count on a particular forum

Post by Zellogi on March 8th 2012, 9:19 pm

I voted yes, because I want the option to disable post count additions to select forums (Like random games, random chat, etc). A lot of people I saw were confused about what the suggestion was about. It's simply this:

Let's say I have 83 posts. I post in a random game, let's say a counting game. What this option is saying is that after I post that, my post count will remain 83. But if I post in like announcements, my post count will rise to 84.

This would be useful for game-like forums (for online games) so you can tell who's really active, and who's just there to spam to raise their post count. I would love to have this feature on my forum (shame it's not available) since my random forum games have like 95% of the total posts, that way we wouldn't have one person with like 8000 posts, and second highest poster is like 300... I've seen it on self-made forums (built from scratch), so I know it's possible, just can't wait for ForuMotion to build a feature like this. (:

I'm ot sure why I'd use it, but I guess if you didn't want people to compete for posts (happens a lot on my forum- leads to spam xP) it's a good idea not to show posts at all.n
