Post by Waddle50008 on July 16th 2007, 4:00 pm

First topic message reminder :

I suggest their Be a button in options that you can choose that will disable the post count for users so that when a users posts something, their "Posts:" will not rise.

That's a different type of suggestion. That is when you lock a topic, this one suggests to disable post count for a particular forum.

Yeah. Doctor Inferno is right. At the moment you can lower postcount from locked threads by simply deleting them.

I think, this suggestion would be beneficial to all admins, because most well run forums have a general section, where any unrelated topic can be discussed, and posts do not count toward the overall post count.

And fight the unnecessary amount of spam.
Might as well try to cut some of the work as best as possible.

I voted "yes" as well.

Well, the main thing is that, NO POST COUNT IS A MUST! It's essential for the Newbie/Introduction Sector and the Forum Games - otherwise, after one day of forum gaming like hell (which many people do) the post counts would climb to the sky which would be a big pain in the ass! I mean, forum gaming posts aren't actual posts! They're games!
So the final thing is that NO POST COUNT is necessary - just set an option in the 'Create Forum and Categories' directory to allow NO POST COUNT!!!

I've worked on both VBulletin and Forumotion and this is the ONLY ONE thing that forumotion needs, as I believe! From all respects (styles, user friendliness, creating threads etc.) Forumotion is just ULTIMATE instead in this one little place:-
WHY DON'T THEY START THE NO POST COUNT THING ALREADY!!! COME ON! I CAN'T GET TO WORK ON MY SITE BEFORE THERE IS A NO POST COUNT - ME AND MY FRIENDS AND MANY OTHER PEOPLE PLAY LIKE HELL OVER THERE ALL DAY SO WE DO NEED THAT SO THAT THERE ISN'T OVERWHELMING POSTS! Mad

I must ask because the OP isn't clear. ( I didn't think this was the same idea at the time I made my suggestion) Is this the same idea as I posted here, or something entirely different?

Angelbeast:

As I understand it, your poll and this one address precisely the same issue. That is, they both pertain to giving forum administrators the ability to selectively disable post counts on any given forum.

I have checked the way in which the feature already is implemented in phpBB3, and I have confirmed that post count is ON by default, and that the admin must disable it on a per-forum basis. That's exactly what you've described in your post/poll — namely, the ability to disable post counts in subjects that are unrelated to the forum's main subject. The feature already exists in phpBB3; the issue here is whether there are enough Forumotion members who find the feature useful to convince the Forumotion team to implement it.

So, voting "Yes" in this poll is the same as voting "Yes" in your poll.

Angelbeast:

Yes! This feature is absolutely essential to those of us who value post counts as a useful tool where they are meaningful. There are certain cases wherein they are not meaningful, and this feature would give every admin the ability to decide that for his/her own forums.

This poll seems to have the same purpose as another proposal; however, your poll question is much more clearly worded, and seems to be less prone to misinterpretation. Thanks!

No ... it is for a forum. For example, if post counts are 'on' on forum games forum or newbie sector forum, then there will be an overflow of number of posts - get it! Not everyone wants their sites to have overflowing post numbers, especially not because someone sits in the forum games 24-7 ... that's why - this one is a must!

Re: No post count/Disabling post count on a particular forum

Post by Skittles on December 1st 2008, 9:36 am

This suggestion has already been suggested. As a rule we normally lock duplicate suggestions, but since we staff members did not catch this until now, I am going to merge the two together.

The only downside is that those who have voted in Angelbeast's thread titled Disabling post count on a particular forum" will have to vote again in this merged topic if you have not already done so, as the merging of two polls will lose the poll counts of the one merged.

Sorry for any inconvenience or confusion.

I voted YES to this, as I feel we can do without all the excessive post counts from spam threads such as forum games. Too many people try to abuse the use of those forums just to boost their post counts.

I would have to say that those who disagree would in my humble opinion, be the majority of those who like to spam or play the games only for the purpose of boosting their post counts and gain higher ranks, etc. Which does not mean "everyone" who does not agree is like that.

Re: No post count/Disabling post count on a particular forum

Post by Tarogasini on December 6th 2008, 1:13 am

It was harsh decision... But i voted no. I like the post count and as many people said already - its a sign that user is active. And also for gaining ranks.

I have seen this feature only once on some forums. And only the head admin had it, nobody else. So he didnt have any post count but only the "infinite" sign ( it looks like laying number 8, check Google pics, if you want to know ).

For me, this idea is useless. I dont even know how would serve you and to how many of you would serve. So : personal opinion - voted NO. For the sake of the others, i would have voted yes.
